For many of the rasika members (Vijay, Arasi specifically :)) - I remember discussing the need to understand harmonics, or the percussive qualities of the piano some time ago - I will be doing a short lec-dem (7:30-8:30 PM) tomorrow, Monday, the 17th November at the Academy Mini-Hall as part of the November fest. The thrust of the lec-dem is the applicability (or lack thereof) of the classical piano in an Indian classical setting.

Look forward to seeing some of you there!

Anil - this is great to hear. Should have been a shoo-in into my calendar were it not for the regrettable fact that I am no longer a resident of Chennai! Anyway, wishing you all the best for the event - also like to make a request for an encore in December...

jananee - thanks for your comment on our singapore performance.

unfortunately, there are no repeats in december... do you think there will be an audience for it in madras to sustain it a second time?

Anyway - vijay/jananee, thanks for your interest. It is good to know that someone cares.

asrini,

It looks like you edited your post after I read it, but it will be helpful if you publicize your concerts and tours a bit better - on your web site, for example. Posting on this forum, as you have done now, is one way to reach this particular audience.

The audience mix you get is reflective of audience interest, yes, but also of the direction of your publicity efforts. I missed your concert on a recent tour because I did not get any information about it until after the event. "Picking" an audience through careful targeted advertising is important, but you cannot then wonder why the untargeted audience did not attend.

Meanwhile, as someone who is intrigued by what you do, could I ask that your lec-dem (and other performances) be recorded and sold on CDs or DVDs?

Woulnd't hazard a guess on how many will come for a second event but maybe the first one should give you a sense. But if you're OK with/have the time for an informal get - together with members from this forum, I am sure there will be enough and more interest from "rasikas" in chennai as well as those who are planning to travel to the city for the Season (including myself)

Anil,
I would love to attend a session in December (2nd half) should there be one.

would like to hear a summary of the lec-dem. A repeat during the season or as a prelude to a gurucharan-srinivasan concert would be a good idea

thanks for the feedback :)...yes, I agree publicity is never enough and one should do more.

Vijay - I will certainly take your suggestion seriously. Let me see how many people attend, and then if there seems to be demand, I will try my best to get someone to organize somethign similar in December. If so, can I count on you to get more people who are like minded ?

Cheers
Anil

The workshop yesterday had a full attendance - close to 250 people (ACademy Mini-Hall has a capacity of 270). There seems to be adequate demand for a second one, so I am talking to some organizers to see how best we can host one during the season. I will try my best to do it in the second half of December so as to maximize attendance.

Rather than summarize the lec-dem here, I would say - please attend the next one :)

Since this came from the rasikas discussion board, I am happy to dedicate the workshop to the rasikas community. Details to follow.

We will love to read a summary of the lec-dem as some of us are not living in Chennai and will not be fortunate to participate in the next one too. You also know that there are 5000+ rasikas in this forum.

At the end of the day, music, in any form, is the language of the heart; it is the true experience of mankind - that sums it all. Thanks asrini.

so, with some effort I have managed to organize one more - this as part of the Charsur festival.

Gurucharan will help me with this workshop and its at Vinnyasa Gallery, in CIT colony from 4-5 on the 13th of December.

I will cover aspects of harmonics, how they pertain to the format that Gurucharan and I have created, and
in general, the idea of harmony in the context of Carnatic classical music - where one could and more importantly, SHOULD not delve.
