I recently heard a bhajan performance in which while singing 22nd Ashtapadi in the rag Madhyamavati, the bhagavatar elaborateda brief alapana of the rag after the dhyana sloka of this ashtapadi. He produced the note D2 while ending the sanchara (this note (D2) is the same that is touched in the rag Shanmukhapriya also, as an anya swara) The melody and beauty of the ragas gets elivated on just producing this note D2 in the raga visthara. I wish to get rasikas views on this rare usage of D2 as an anya swara in Madhyamavathi rag.

Perhaps you can present a sample. Although I have not heard it, it sound too odd, and sort of goes against the grain of one of the important characteristics of madhyamavati - i.e. the importance of ni (unless this da is again used as some sort of anya swara in some gamaka for ni?)

As a rule, no anya swaras have any place in the sancharas of the rag Madhyamavathi. But, at the same time such an attempt doesnot anyway affect /alter the raga bhavam also. The note D2 sounds more of an anuswara and gets suppressed by the tone of the nishadam and thus gives a unique effect for the rag. I tried this by playing the note d2 in the Harmonium, as an anuswara to nishadam and appear to me not at all disturbing the raga bhava of Madyamavathi. Can it be
a " misra" effect ?
