Dear all
I was listening to a 1984 Malayalam song from the film "Sandhyakkenthinu Sindooram", the song being "Sivamkari sada..." (sorry, unable to get either a sample or the full lyrics). This song seems to have been sung in a raga that is a sruthibhedam on G2 of Sivaranjani. Here's my question:

Sivaranjani takes G2 as the common note and G3 as a rare or occasional note. While doing a sruthibhedam on G2 we have two outcomes:

a. Assume G3 doesn't occur at all (ie., use its canonical form) ---> Sunaadavinodini
b. Assume G3 occurs --> Hamsaanandi

What was optional in the original raga (G3) is now not optional at all--I mean, Sunadavinodini cannot just take an 'occasional' R1...

So then, what do we get out of the sruthibhedam?

Actually the song is very pleasing, as it really sounds like Sunaadavinodini with an occasional R1 thrown in...!

Could you tell me some sunaadivinodini songs? Is there anything on sangeethapriya?

Oh, devadideva is one song, isn't it?

Sunaadavinodini seems to have only one kriti, Devaadhideva, in popular circulation. I think I've heard some film songs though...

Balamurali has sung an RTP in Sunaadhavinodhini, if I am not mistaken. I will look it up tomorrow, and post it if I find it
