When DKJ was performing , I have noticed vijayashiva then certainly could not connect then as how vijayashiva will perform and delight all of us for years to come . But with Harish N looks like one has to watch him out like his guru vijayashiva (BTW I am not sure if Harish learns from any one else other than Vijayashiva). I did notice him in 2006 when he sang a brilliant simm madhyamAm. This year to me he sang beautifully richly preserving the no frills bAni of DKJ-vijayashiva.
The start was not that great , kAmbOdhi became less of a calmbOdhi only after he sang the second speed varnam .THe best no was the asAveri, I just love when vocalist are forced to sing in a nAdaswara bAni and rA rAma yiNti was very good , His swaras were rich and really superb.
The contrast of nAdAswara bAni was perhaps taken completely by veenA bani , and what a contrast to asAveri was his sahAnA . Another nice rendition but perhaps not the best of swaras came out there. The next was a actually a more main , more than the AlApanai was his krithi rendition and diction that impressed me , his neraval was excellent here with a very good round of swaras .
SenchuKAmbODhi for time immemorial is only used to indicate that the main is next . PoorvikalyAni AlApanai was not that great , certainly he did well in one aspect cut short the alApanai to the right DKJ proportion ,as generally poorvikAlyAni is bit notorious to get little repetitive .The main was a very rare poochi krithi , neraval was bit low key here ,the rendition of krithi was quite nice .He was perhaps bit apprehensive in terms of completion in swaras during poorvikalyAni . The tillana was quite good.
harish's sister rooopA played appropriately , her alApana of bhairavi and sahAna was very good , with poorvikalyANi being little low key. KumbakOnam swaminAthan's mridangam was strokeful and he played well with the flow of the songs. Looks like we all have to watch Harish .
