9. alApanai of madhyamAvati

An extremely well presented concert by SuryaprakAsh that was excellent throughout but had very little touch of MMI.Start was a brief nAttai alApana with copious swarakalpana exuberance.

Reetigowlai was presented more resembling pitamaha semmangudi mAma's style, with more emphasis on continous gamakam . The days best was his very very detailed , complete and fulfilling in all aspects, the submain vAchaspathi. The neraval in particular was brilliant.

Two back to back one in chowka kAlam Ahiri and another in rapid fire swaras in nalinAkanthi was excellent. Heard atleast 10 times his swaras of nalinAKanthi in the past 5years , certainly most of time(certainly not every time) there is new and colorful sarvalaghu downpour of swarAs. Today there was a brand new on spot manOdharma swara kalpana pattern.

The main in keeravAni alAapana was the best in the krithi was very classical, despite a well presented followup of krithi , he disappointed a bit by dodging to sing a neraval . Certainly the swaras were not as expansive as a main. The MKT famous no dheenakarunAkaraNE was well received , but to me the pick of the tukkkadAs was the mmi touch of kandAn karunai in bhimplAs especially few uruttals in the line anDa mADiDum.

The viruththam kunram erindhaDum was well presented in rAgamAligA, but to me he could have gone more detailed there.Raghavendra rao's violin was very apt for the concert , if there was a little hiccup that was little in the main keeravAni alApanai .

The concert was excelllent simply because of both the play of the percussionist . In particular the fast play of Tvr vaidyanAthan was excellent(he has both azhuttam and speed) , his play in nAttai and nAlinAkAnthi swaras was brilliant, though for the first 2 numbers the volume of the percussionist was loud . Tvr vaidyanAthan's tani was certainly not as impressive as his play for songs. The biggest disappointment of the concert was that the concert was just only for 2 hours,he wrapped up with only madhyamAvati alApanai.

For the energetic effervescence of Suryaprakash, a two hour concert is a stricture...

I came in during the vAchaspaTi AlApanai, but could hear the first two songs from the canteen. (The pongal, vadai was excellent! :) ) I found the volume to be extremely loud too.
Also, none of the concerts that I've been in this season have been for more than 2 hours. A pity!
Overall, I enjoyed Suryaprakash's concert and am looking forward to a few more of his before heading back.

I attended the concert of RSP. He sang really well showing little of MMI and showing more of his own originality. I was really Happy.

Yes i also felt the volume ws a bit louder. But i felt it filled the hall in the beginning than when it was reduced a bit later.

Anyway opinions differ.

The trooper that Suryaprakash is, he would have filled the hall with resonance, no matter...

Accompanied by MR Gopinath, Srimushnam Raja Rao and SV Ramani, Suryaprakash gave a cracker of a concert at Mudhra yesterday, it lasted 2hr40min of prime time (6:30 PM start). A haunting hamsAnandi with HM type glides that I still can't get out of my mind (pAhi jagajjanani) and a sedate SankarAbharanam main (sarOja daLa nEtri) were the highlights to me.
