Hi all,

I am new to this forum. Will start off with a brief recap of TVS's concert at vani mahal.

1) Viruttam - Pranatosmi deivam vinayakam - nattai (S)
2) Ardanariswaram - kumudakriya
3) Nadatanumanisam - chittaranjani (S)
4) Sripate - Vachaspati (R,N,S)
5) Maa ramanan - Hindolam (R)
6) Kandan enra peril - Kambhoji (R,N,S)
7) Thaye yashoda - thodi (N)
8) Viruttam - behag, jonpuri
9) Eppo varuvaro
10) Vellai thamari

First time I am listening to TVS live, parts of the concert were excellent. The swaras for vachaspati, hindolam alapana and the behag for the viruttam. I was disappointed with the krithi selection for main (he could have sung subramanyaya namaste if he wanted a muruga krithi for karthigai). His son supported him and was good. He mentioned it was the death anniversary of MS, hence maa ramanan. Sri Raja rao was on the mridangam, showed excellent anticipation for the sangathis but in his enthusiasm, sometimes took a bit away from the entire experience (wish he would listen a bit more to pazhani!). The violinist was V.V.Ravi, his vachaspati alapana was good. Forgot to mention a brief thaye yashoda after the main, with MMI-style neraval for kalinil chilambu, which was also good.

Grappling with the playing of violin perhaps, aiming to be a gripping Grappelli!

I dont think Palani ever played for TVS (sorry about this Grapelli !!!) I have seen Sri Raja Rao play for different artists with variety and I believe this style of accompaniment suits and is liked by sri TVS too. I am sure he has listened to Palani more than anyone of us would have done.

Maheshu, I was referring to pazhani's sensitive accompaniment for MMI. I meant to say that it would have enhanced my listening experience if sri raja rao had been more subdued at certain points in the concert. Of course, I am a novice at layam and it is possible that it was indeed apt and sri TVS also prefers that style.

Arasi, yes I am a violinist. Had to choose my favorite violinist outside CM since all the carnatic violinists have already been chosen as user names!
