Can i get some inputs on

1. which venues have enough parking space
2. which venues don't have any space at all

I feel, there is no point in hunting for a parking area and missing initial part of concert..

Best to use public transport. :D No parking problem.

But NGS, Music Academy and Kalakshetra have parking space. For Kalakshetra, it is normally enough. You may expect some Mylapore venues to have some space too, but not T Nagar, I think.

Almost none have "adequate" parking ecxept the Academy which has arranged parking at St Ebba's. NGS is OK becuase you can park on the side roads in Alwarpet but the hall premises really cannot cater to a full house

I agree with Srikanth - walking/public transport is quite convenient in Chennai and gives you a lot more flexibility.

Krishna Gana Sabha, Vanimahal, MFAC, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has this problem to the greatest extent.

Here are a few of my regulars to add:

Sivagami Pettachi (mctm school, Luz Church Road) --- moderate parking, soon fills up. Parking possible on main road or side streets.

Dakshinamurthy Auditorium (PSHS School, RK Mutt Rd) --- plenty of parking but can be very wet and muddy if it rains

Swamy's Hall (RK Mutt Rd) --- no parking, use street

Raga Sudha (Luz) --- opposite yard usually open for parking. Nearby streets can be used, but not immediately adjacent to the hall or on the corner

Sastri Hall (Luz Church Road) --- a few parking spaces outside

Vidhya Bharati (Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Bheemasenna Gardens) --- Try to park a street or two away, and avoid entering the street itself, which is a narrow residential road*

Hamsadvani (Youth Hostel, Indira Nagar) --- parking available on wide street

German Hall (T. Nagar) --- I think it has limited parking, but nearby streets may be better

Vani Mahal (T. Nagar) --- very limited parking, use local street a few minutes away. Road works mean that it may be better to park before getting there.

YGP (T. Nagar) --- I parked a couple of streets away, then discovered it has its own car park that was almost empty!

Mylapore Halls --- well, everybody knows them better than I do!!!

*A good point to remind the concert goers with drivers that they are not Victorian Lords and Ladies being dropped from their carriages at a country-house ball, and that having their drivers stop, mid road, while they unload their families is a ____ nuisance to everyone. This venue is a particulary bad one for this!

nick,
Like you have become a full fledged chennai sabha mamA, I will call you as nikil or better yet neelakantan sir from now on.

s_hari,

Perhaps the safest bet would be kamarAj hall in teynampet, you will surely get one.

There is one in Parrys corner , rAJa annamalai mandram , you will surely get one there as there are very few takers .

Also try kalakruthi in chetput spurtank road , that sabha is a road where you can easily park.

Try mudhra in north tnagar , usman road , the rkm school parking is very big.

Krishna gana sabha in tnagar at times rents parking in the opposite free space in ramakrishna ashram

On a funny note try parking in mylapore bharathiya vidya bhavan , you will miss the entire concert .

BETTER YET , CALL SOME pakkavadyam artist and offer him pickup , you will be getting a sure parking lot. :)

I have certainly become a full-fledged fighter with Chennai bus drivers!

A note about Sastri Hall, Luz Church Road, based on my last experience: If you are coming along Luz Church Road from the West (that is to say that the hall will be on your right) in the rush hour for an evening concert, find a space to park before reaching the hall, and before reaching the median that runs all the way to Luz corner. It can take half an hour to reach the junction to do the U-turn. It is frustrating to be sitting looking at the hall, when one wants to be inside it!

Bharatya Vidya Bhavan---out of season one may be lucky and park right outside. In the season, when I know people sit through the afternoon session as being the only way to get their seat for the evening session, Hmmm...

Please, Chennai Corporation: Make the Mylapore Mada streets one way! The snarl-ups in South Mada Street could so easily be avoided by this. Of course, the cows, and probably the 2-wheelers, would take no notice

I find that a parking space for Mylapore can often be found... but wait! If I tell you all it won't be there next time I need it!!!

...I've heard of parking meters, but so far not seen any.

Update on YGP: they have two car parks, one for self-drivers, and one for driver-driven. The latter is the biggest. Seems like the Lords and Ladies are in the majority! No wonder Bheemasena Gardens is such a jam-up

 Yes, indeed. I will have to get my chennai refresher from Nick.

Here is what I am imagining. Veshti wearing Nick, chewing betel leaves and nuts, talking up the yesteryear greats while dismissing today's upstarts :)

...Well, I've already taken on board the word preposterous ;)

Veshti, yes. Despite the fact that outside musical society I'm in a minority these days, that's there to stay. But no paan.

An ex-tobacco addict, I'm afraid!

I had no trouble parking close to MFAC tonight, finding a place outside Vaigai, the tile shop. When I called my wife and wondered why it had only taken me 20 minutes to get there, she reminded me: Sunday. Ahhh... there were lots of vehicles parked on the road; I don't suppose the police allow that there on weekdays?
