Had to leave at this point... Was 9 pm n I live half way across the city

The AbhOgi kriti is a wonderful starter for a concert in my opinion.. It's got a very alluring madhyamakAla sAhitya... The swaras were executed with clinical precision except for one small slip...
mAyAmAlavagowLa immediately after this made for a beautiful contrast. The neraval was kinda short...
The Anandabhairavi AlApana by the younger sister was very sweet and yet had "weight"... Covered all the characteristic phrases n had a soft yet moving feel to it.
The sisters sing Tamil kritis with a lot of emotion n the khamAs one was no exception...
The next item was a complete surprise... The older sister started the hamsAnandi AlApana n the younger one took over at the higher reaches, which the elder one always has difficulty negotiating... At this point, I was expecting pAhi jagajjanani cuz I've heard them sing it with swaras at sArasakrutanilayE n it's REALLY poignant... But they came up with a completely "new" (@vijay

The mOhanam piece based on the rAmAyaNa was really insightful. It is addressed to bharat n ends on the note questioning him rhetorically, "Were u born to be besmirched with the blame of rAma's exile? (despite all your fraternal love)" This is the 2nd rAmAyaNa-based mOhanam song I'm hearing in as many days... Smt Sowmya sang one abt the scene describing vibhIshaNa seeing rAma.
The shankarAbharaNam suite by the younger sister was surely not the best I've heard of her... She was having problems with reach in the upper octaves... The upper ga was pretty tough for her to reach n the upper ma was a STRUGGLE... But kudos to her for her effort... Every time she had to reach it, she took a second off like a mountain climber surveying a peak b4 starting n then id the best she cud... Of course, she ended up sounding strained... The kriti was well rendered. They tried a few poruttams but the older one faltered on three occasions... The violinist's AlApana was well structured n neat... His swaraprastAras were also good...
The sisters always sing kritis on perumAL spiritedly. This was no exception... The annamacharya song was sung BEAUTIFULLY...
The viruttam which followed was shared among them. The elder sister's rEvati deserves spl mention... Splendid...
One other thing... They seem to refer to sAhitya too much... In fact, the younger one forgot a line for one of the songs n then had to look into the book... N on some occasions, she was singing, practically reading from the book...
But wholesome concert overall... Made my day
