The Global Rasikas Meet 2010 is on the 19th December 2010 at the Ramakrishna Mission School at North Usman Road, T'Nagar, Chennai. The hall is in the first floor of the school.

I am creating this topic at the request of Sri. Nageswaran to bring this spreadsheet to everyone's attention. If you are attending, please fill out the spreadsheet. This was created by member music_is_life and I am enclosing his message below. Use this thread to post important information about the event like directions, costs, logistics etc. so it is not cluttered with general discussions about the event. Post discussion related messages about the event in the other topic on the Global Rasikas Event 2010 ( viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13740 )

Mohan: Just added those two extra fields. However, "location" is not a required field because some people might not want to put that information in.

I find that the spreadsheet which was created by both of you for the Global Rasikas Meet 2010 in XL format was convenient for me to monitor all the aspects of the meet..

A request to RaviSri. Sir, please can you come to Chennai during the season? I would love to meet you after 8 years. Many rasikas would also like to meet you. You live not far from Chennai. Would love to listen to your singing in the Dhanammal bhani. I know you don't visit Chennai these days, but please consider this time.

kittappa, actually these days I live in two places alternately, in Tiruvannamalai (where I have been living from 1993) and Palakkad. Madras has become so overcrowded, with traffic snarls etc., so the initiative to visit any city is not there. Also, I have no accomodation arrangements in Madras. No relatives or friends there right now. Also, hotels will not be available during that period. Woodlands, Maris etc., will be fully booked during season.

If I can find any accomodation I can certainly think of coming and meeting you all. If you can think of any idea I can certainly consider coming for 3 or 4 days.

Leaving aside the debate about anonymity online, we must recognise that not all members want to announce their actual identities to the entire world on a public site or in a publicly readable document. As I don't think there is any practical way to restrict the spreadsheet to rasikas members only, we must accept that some will not want to put their names there.

But, in the same manner, some people may like anonymity to carry on their own activities unidentified and run away unrecognised at their convenience. Let them have their own fancy. Akellaji: I realize what you are referring to, namely online debates with anonymous people which can get unsavory. That is unfortunately a reality. One solution is one can choose to engage in a discussion/debate with people who have a reputation at this site ( membership time, post count, quality of posts in the past etc. ), and not based on if they have revealed their true identity or not.

But in general, keeping information private on the internet and "sincerity, honesty and transparency" are two separate things. There is no negative connotation to keeping the identity private on the internet. It is a personal choice. It is all good if people make a fully informed choice. But that is not the case on the internet. In fact I would say people are publishing too much info about themselves on the internet ( i.e Facebook ) without realizing the full implications. It is a one way street, once you release your personal info, you can not take it back.

Dear brother-member, vasanthakokilam, Yes. While the anonymity is a facility one can avail the sincerity, honesty and transparency are ethical qualities one must have. Nobody tells not to avail such facilities but, at the same time, to maintain these ethics to keep the society tension-free. More over, I sincerely feel that it is not that difficult to maintain both at the same time like you for which the society feels happy to move on. Any person, though not have these ethics himself, certainly expects them from others and no person needs to loose these ethics while availing any such facility like anonymity. amsharma

I have received a personal E-Mail from Sri Lakshman Ragade, one of our moderators that he will be participating in our Global Rasikas meet 2011 on 18.12.2011.

Many of the Rasikas may know that Sri Lakshman Ragade had compiled an exhaustive Music directory of about 45,000 Krithis with the Ragam, Thalam and composer for the Krithis.

Any queries regarding the name of the composer or the full krithi details are answered by him in the “ Vaggeyakares” header or in many threads of our website.

Rasikas can look forward to have an interactive session with him during our meet.

I understand that there is a problem in accessing the spreadsheet prepared by Sri VijayR vide post NO. 58

I was not able to login the spreadsheet. Sri Lakshman Ragde had also expressed about the login problem.

However, the EXL sheet prepared by Music_is_life is convenient.

If the Rasikas are finding it difficult to access the above also, all the Rasikas who wish to participate in our meet can give the following details in the thread.

Dear Sri Nageswaran,

I am not sure why you had issues accessing the website (I have not had any downtime problems). The site is maintained on Google's servers and therefore, should be pretty scalable and have close to 100% uptime. Please note that you cannot directly enter information into the spreadsheet in the "summary of responses" tab. That is just to view the results. You have to fill out the web form on the main page.

If you would like, you can copy over the results from the "Summary of responses" tab into your master spreadsheet.

I am a new member here and my first post though I have been following many threads that are interesting to read.
I am a half indian brought up mostly in the South Americas. I am planning to be there in chenai in Dec visiting our relatives in and around Kerla and Tamil nad. Though I live in SA, we are very much interested in Indian culture and arts. I randomly listen to classical instrumental music of india from the carnatic and hindustani idiom.
While in chenai end of this year, I am curious to attend this gathering and find what is being discussed. Propbably it will give me some ideas on my interest in doing higher studies in music.
I am not sure if I will have lunch as I a have adapted to being a poure non vegetarian. If meat is served (I am not sure), I would prefer lean meat.

With Nick being there, tea will certainly be served along with coffee (for south indians and south americans)

Welcome to Rasikas.org, Priyadarshini! Hope you take in a generous dose of carnatic music while you are in Chennai. You get a chance to taste a typical south Indian vegetarian lunch at the meet. There are many restaurants in Chennai where you can get non-vegetarian fare.
