Yes, And that occasional beatiful D P G prayogam brings in a glimpse of kApi but then it is just a tease, it gives way as quickly to the subsequent S G M P which brings in a shade of KDG, only to go into new directions with G M G R S after that. Ah.. nice. Very enjoyable.Arun, yeah Patdip has N3 - but the structure is otherwise the same and I could at least relate it to KDG more than, say, Gowri Manohari...

I notice that the varNam rendition featured, on several occasions in the ascent /ArOhaNa phrases, the use of dhaivata as an anuswara or starting point for glide to niShAda. Is this characteristic of patdIp in the hindustAni version?

the dhaivata does occur as an anuswara in the etra jaaru from pa leading to the nishada in some phrases but not others. For example, compare and contrast the usage in "panchamukham" and "hanumantam". It is absent in the sphuritam - m p p n n s* but present in the m p , n , , phrase. However, the 1st set of swaras in charana also eschew the anuswara - p , , n , , s*, , ,
thanks for the feedback!!

Dear Nandagopal
Here is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn from your expertise on interpreting fascinating HM ragas brought into CM which will expand our horizon of entertainment and understanding. Please share your other creations and you may also discuss the ideas for new creations. In addition to MNS and Ahiri you may also recruit from our stellar membership potential amateur CM enthusiasts. Of course if you wish to work through Coolkarni that would be equally welcome. Regards and Best Wishes.

cmlover: Its been great interacting with all of you – ranjayatey iti raaga! Please give me some more time to get better organized. We can then work together on other compositions. I am, however, most comfortable in the role of a student. Would you be so kind to compose a sloka on Patdeep? It could address the raga lakshana and / or whatever you think is relevant. Many thanks for your help.
For rasikas who play various instruments, this link points to the various types of jaaru used in HM, such as meend, ghaseet, soonth (thread): http://www.itcsra.org/alankar/meend/meend_index.html
It is said of Smt. Kishori Amonkar that she trained under Smt. Anjanibai Malpekar just to gain better control over “meendâ€

Dear Nandagopal
It is nice you are willing to educate us on HM through CM. Just take your time. It is no problem composing in Sanskrit shlokas that may help. But I personally think pieces in Hindusthani (like meera bhajans) will be more elegant and appropriate. I hope our Shankar will be able to help in picking passages that will help (perhaps from Ramcarita maanas). Even Jayadev's gitagovindam is rife with shlokas and gItams that can be adopted. The right raga mood will make them sound divine. I will do some research. We will also look for versatile volunteers from our membership to try out your ideas. In addition to Ahiri, the name of Sumati comes to mind immediately ; while MNS is our golden masculine voice we need many more volunteers from among our Rasikas to come forward to sing and expand the horizon of HM into CM!

I checked
http://www.surasa.net/music/jayadeva/
where BMK has used only traditional ragas. Do you have a site ref?

Please check this thread http://www.rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=5328 for info on how Shri Nandagopal's paTdIp varnam and Ahiri's audio were used to demonstrate a prototype of a multimedia learning tool (Nandagopal, Ahiri - I hope you dont mind)

Of course i do not mind that you have used my rendition
Nandagopal Sir's Varnam for a demo.
The software speaks of the pains and hours you have put in
and i wish you the best, ideas and thoughts, for progress.
But i have made a few mistakes in the splitting the Sahityam and
will soon put up another recording with these corrections.
Mr.Nandagopal had justly pointed out these following corrections to me :
1) s g , m , g m g r s but not s g , m , g m g r s
A……nja… nE…yam.. Anja……… nE… yam…
2) d p g , , g g m g r s but not d p g , , g m g r s
vi… ma… lam…………. vi… ma… lam………
3) sItA kaLAtram srIrAma dUtam – attention to karvais
2+2+4 2+3+3+3 3+3+2 2+1+2
4) first ettugada swara in the charanam - karvais should be clearly split as:
3+3+4 2+2+2 3+3+1+2 2+2+2+1

Await your corrected rendition. And do send it also to Arun so that he can make an object lesson of it all in his demo!
All CM learners may in future start learning varnams with the invocation to Kere Hanuman in Patdeep (lighting the CM deepam) with the Computer as their Instructor and Nandagopal and Arun as their spiritual Teachers!
JAI HANUMAN!
