8. eppovaruvAro (S)- jonpuri - Adi - GKB

yesterday all of us were totally transported to some other heavenly carnatic world. TMK was so brisk and his voice was in full form starting from guruleka till the end. During swarams for the line "thatwa bhodhana jesi" TMK vocally supported for RKS (he sang for whatever RKS played in violin) which was excellent. All more, the surprise was the thAnam sung for nArAyanagoulai which was completely mastery. The nArAyanagoulai didnt get the shades of either kedAragoulai or Surutti. Then the majestic piece de resistance in sAveri, traversing through three octaves with utmost ease like a rendition in veena!!! , the neraval at "nArayana tAraka divya nAma" all still ringing in my ears. Then the usual thukkadAs with swarams for eppo varuvAro in his own style....
Specially to mention in this concert is the accompaniment of RKS. hurrah, great great accompaniment.
umalyalpuram mAli and trichy murali's participation was also good matching to the tempo of TMK.

overall, a great concert again by TMK in trichy within a week (last saturday i heard another concert of his in trichy Rasika Ranjana Sabha:) ) thanks to organisers and the team of TMK & co.

i ll post reviews of other concerts shortly :))

Definitely the list is is something of great interest to me. I have never heard him sing
Saveri live. I guess this is the first time he is starting a concert with Guruleka , yet another
famous piece.

I am sure this thread will go like anuman tail due to the thanam at a non traditional place.

Braindrain,
Is that a modern looking Saibaba temple hidden somewhere within those little streets? Very nice upstairs gallery from where you can listen to the music.

You have definitely missed something. Some bits and pieces of his Boston concert where he sang a saveri are in youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-vOS3WCHWE ,you can click other links by the side) . Of course, listening to it live is an experience in itself.

I listened to a blissful shree rajagopala in cleveland, '07. Waiting to hear a tAnam in saveri!

TMK is reaching heights which few people can ever aspire for. Such talent, hard work, LUCK , stage presentation and presence, confidence etc is hard to see but heartening to see. The biggest wonder is his age, so young but so far ahead in this field.

Is it the same Nandrudayan temple which had hosted fabulous concerts in 50's and 60's. If so is it possible to get some recordings from that era

TMK sings a 53-minute Sri Rajagopala in this album, Narayana.

TMK sings an RTP in Saveri in this recording, Madrasil Margazhi 2004.

ya, its the same venue where excellent concerts use to happen. almost all stars and stalwarts have sung here. but i dont have the recordings of yesteryear artists held at this venue. im just a student(so, no chance of hearing the stalwarts live) and started hearing concerts for past 7-8years at this venue..

anyways i ll ask the organisers for it :)

Nanrudayar temple used to be the venue for many concerts of maestros - GNB, Madurai Mani Iyer, ... and Upanyasams.

Nanrudayanai is a tevaaram # 1058 from the very first tirumurai of the "panniru tirumurai".

The verse itself however is about Lord Shiva.

This thevaram was popularized by Alathur Brothers in concerts. I have heard it sung by the Oduvars (Mouna Matam) at the Mathrubhutheswarar temple (rockfort).

Also here is a very nice description about the Vinayagar in this temple

Sathya-vrathan: I am sure you meant EAST Boulevard Road ( and NOT W.B.) not far from Murugan Talkies Cinema. I listened to the late greats as Madurai Mani, Alathur Brothers, GNB etal at this venue in the fifties. I am so nostalgic, now living far away in place and time.

ya its the same E.B.Road. though the place is not so good the concert being presented by all artists is of high calibre. the main constraint in attending the concerts here is lack of transportation facilities. either we'll have to by by two-wheeler/car or by an auto which many doesnt afford to. so there is only a sparse crowd for these concerts. but still i enjoyed every concerts and it was more or less like a house concert/chamber concert.
