A nice concert, presented well and all the songs after main were new to me. The concert was for about 2 hours. All accompanists played well. All alapanas and swaras were shared with vocal support - manasa nayana. All alapanas were packed with time and tested sangathis.
The venue is a small hall, with most of the people squatting down. All the attendees listened to concert with rapt attention, no walkouts. The brief award ceremony preceded the concert with veda ghosha, and honoring artists was after the concert completed.
R.K.Srikantan was also presented an award and title - keshava kala ratna. I will post couple of pictures next.

Hari,
Thank you for the review.
Yes, I like concerts like this! The peace you get from not having to experience audience-brought disturbances is something we all cherish. No exodus and rapt listeners! Besides concert halls, I have heard RKS in temples and at Ananya where the atmosphere was just as agreeable and that day, it was two hours of just sAvEri (his students singing too), and it was the kind of a lec-dem where his words only enhanced the music and not the other way round.
I have heard Chandrashekhar play the violin a few times. He is a good player.

Sreeni - You are right, i have made necessary corrections.
Arasi - A great concert, no nonsense what so ever. All songs sung in nice kalapramanam, and i couldn't belive even a filler song before main was sung so beautifully and nicely in enjoyable kalapramanam. A true nadopasaka indeed.
I wasn't sure about sabha location, couldn't out after lot of searches in internet. Finally in the afternoon, i called Srikantan to findout. He too said, it is far away, and gave details of sabha etc, and i requested him to share the phone number of organizer. Then i called organizer to findout the right direction to confirm. I did meet Sri. Srikantan before concert and re-introduce myself and that i was the one who called in the afternoon.
This sabha has completed 8 years, and this is their 8th annual festival. Probably they don't have enough publicity in bangalore.

Thanks to him, you made it! That's what I mean. A simple soul he is for all that he is. I don't know him personally, but have exchanged a few words with him on occasion. It wasn't as if it was my lucky day. I have observed his being that way to anyone who speaks to him. And every time I listen to him I think, my goodness! All this is out of a treasure chest!
I have heard him solo and with his son Ramakanth, of course. This student who sang with him--has he done it before?
By the way, Ramakanth is giving a concert in Chennai this month which I came across in Ram's blog, I think.

I wanted to go for this concert but I thought I will be lost trying to find the place.
Hari,
Is it near the ISRO layout bus stand. From Google maps I could see you have to go beyond Banasankari
http://maps.google.co.in/maps?f=q&sourc ... BA&split=0
He is singing tomorrow(Wednesday) at Venugopalaswmy Temple, 11th Cross Malleswaram part of the Sri Jayanthi Celebrations

Yes, it is close to ISRO layout bus stand, less than 1 km. Google map is right. This layout is next to kumaraswamy layout. I too had a kind of tough time, had to stop and enquire at couple of places to make sure i am going in right path.ranjanimalavi wrote:I wanted to go for this concert but I thought I will be lost trying to find the place.

Is there a recording of the sAvEri lec-dem available? There was a lec-dem on rItigowLa posted on sangeethapriya and it is one of my treasured collections.arasi wrote: Besides concert halls, I have heard RKS in temples and at Ananya where the atmosphere was just as agreeable and that day, it was two hours of just sAvEri (his students singing too), and it was the kind of a lec-dem where his words only enhanced the music and not the other way round.
I also had the honor of spending an evening with him when he visited the SF bay area last year. He came across as a simple person but very disciplined, which is probably the reason he can still sing at the age of 89!

Yes. His student Manasa Nayana has given vocal support to RKS many times. He also gives good concerts. Recently he sang at Shankara Mutt, Shankarapuram.arasi wrote:Thanks to him, you made it! Nice to this concert being reported on this forum. It was really a good concert. I was one among the audience and enjoyed it very much.
