Very good concert by Sanjay. Gangeyabhushani alapana by Sanjay and HK Venkatram was very good. Long speech denied us the RTP, which would have been an icing on the cake. The speech by R K Padmanabha , 50% of which was showering praises on Sanjay, started with an impromptu verse ( he might have written it while the concert was on) on Sanjay, was also set to Gangeyabhushani. He made some remarks in Kannada as " Sanjayine Sanje " ( or to that effect, meaning this evening belongs to Sanjay). Bhairavi was also brilliant, and had some slightly different phrases in the alapana. Someone who is more knowledgeable can give us some hints.

yes, bhairavi was very different. i thought he would sing rtp after hearing excellent aalapana in 'gangeya bhushaNi', but he chose evvare ramayya. neraval at 'sari evvare ramayya' was very good.
rshankar wrote:09 - should be 'SrutvA gunAn bhuvanasundarA' - rukmiNi's impassioned plea to krishNa to come and carry her away - possibly the first 'love letter'!
make that shrutvA guNan.. Yes, I too remember my grandmother singing this, and my grandfather commenting that this was 'the oldest billet doux'
A few words about the Talavadyam artists that evening. H. S. Sudhindra and B. Rajashekhar provided excellent accompaniment throughout. Their fine anticipation and apt playing added great luster to the brilliant concert that Sanjay came up with. The tani avarthanam was of very high order.
Jayan has already referred to H. K. Venkatram’s fine violin support. HKV’s turn to Sanjay’s great alapane in Gangeyabhushani was a delight. The Kedaragowla that they dished out in the shlokam, though brief, was delectable.
It was a pleasure to see a large number of youngsters sitting close to the dais and listening to the fare provided by the team with rapt attention.
Curtailed by a long speech, Sanjayana sanje sans RTP Ayitu! (his evening ended up without an RTP because of a long speech).
Rajesh,
I don't make requests at concerts. The few I have made have been ignored by performers. Asking for krutis is not a good idea because accomodating them is perhaps difficult for them. TukkaDAs? Yes! It is possible that two different rasikAs asked for different songs in sindhu bhairavi, Sanjay obliged and added one of his own choice as kosuRu (extra)!
I might have liked the threesome too, like braindrain--especially since he didn't sing visvEsvar darSan--not my favorite. I love the words, but it somehow 'sounds' flat to me.
He sang Gangeyabhushani as the submain here in Hyderabad few months ago. It must have been a treat to listen to a ragam like Gangeyabhushani as the main!! Sanjay Subhramanyam always has surprises in store
