The concert began with brisk Abhogi varnam. Kanjadalayathakshi was simply superb. The Neraval and Swarakalpana were outstanding. I could say that this was the best part of the concert.There was no RTP as there was nt enough time which disappointed me a little as we dont get to listen to many RTPs here in Hyderabad. Sri Santhanagopalan always sings RTPs in his concerts but today time did not cooperate. The concert went for two hours and fifteen minutes. The alapanas of Nalinakanthi and Bhairavi were decent.
There was a lot of repetition. When he sang here in Aug 2007, He sang Varali[Ka Va Va], In January 2008 he sang Manavyalakincharadhatey as the submain and Lalithey Sri Pravridhdha as the main. In his Last concert here in September 2008, He sang Ka Va Va,Nathajanapalini and BalaGopala. So the only place where I was not completely satisfied was the repetition. Despite the fact that he sang Nalinakanthi quite a few times before, I still loved it. He presented a wonderful skill in singing the ragam. The main piece was on the request of The Mridangam Artiste Sri L.V.V Iyer. Sri Santhanagopalan made a statement that,"L.V.V Iyer requested me to sing Bala Gopala for the main piece, So I will be singing that now. If you sing what the mridangam artiste asks for then he will enjoy playing even more and thaniavarthanam will be more than enjoyable" He encouraged the accompanying artistes a lot. He requested Violinist Sri Dinaker to play some phrases of Bhairavi which he requested for as those phrases sound even better when Sri Dinaker plays it and Neyveli Sir would like to enjoy that beauty of the ragam.He appreciated Sri Dinaker for the wonderful way in which he played Bhairavi. The Neraval for Bala Gopala was at the line "Neela neeradha" He explained the beauty of the composition before singing that. All in all it was a satisfying concert.

To encourage and recognize fellow artistes comes naturally to NSG--occasionally to the point that he can forget that he has his work cut out and has to catch up with his own stuff!
I mean, his generosity towards other musicians cannot come in the way of his keeping his own glory going--he needs to stop only for a moment to appreciate fellow artistes!
I hope vidyaarthi takes this in the right spirit (he will!). He is too generous
Revanth,
Once again, thank you for attending concerts in Hyderabad and for writing about them. You still loved the naLinakAnti because it would have been very different from the one you had heard before!

Repetition of songs in the same venue has become repetitive (!) by several artists. Back in the fifties I remember that artists as GNB, Alathur brothers et al would keep track of earlier presentations at the venue and/or consult the organizers before commencing the program in order to avoid this mistake. Present day artists could do the same .

Revanth - Nalinakanthi is one of NSG sir's specialty. This swara kalpana must have been awsome.
Was nada vindu kaladi rendered in kurinji or chenchurutti? Do you recollect #7 slokam?
Arasi - you are right. NSG sir is one of the few artists who encourage other co-artists on the stage, and brings out their best. Prince Ramavarma is the other one i can recollect right now.

Dear s_hari, The slokam began with the lines "Yogindhrana..." I am the sure about the words. Last time when Neyveli sir sang Govardhana giri dhaari, the slokam was "Kasthuri Thilakam" but this time it was a different one
The swarakalpana in Nalinakanthi was outstanding. As you said, NSG sir sings nalinakanthi really well.
And Nada Vindu kaladhi was in Chenchuruti, I made a mistake there
shall edit that part. thanks
@arasi
As you said, this nalinakanthi was different from the ones I heard from him before. It was thoroughly enjoyable. And It was my pleasure writing about the concerts here in the forum
