Shyama-priya : I will attempt this in small parts. Here is the first stanza:
ponnulavu cennikula nannagar aNNAmalai tan pundiyil magizhndu nittam ninravan - He happily resides in the mind of Annamali (the author) who belongs to the good town of Chennikulam, where goddess Lakshmi sports
mundi vendiral arakkargaLai venravan - Long back, He defeated the demons of terrible power
mayil pOla Enalin mIdulAvugirAda mAdu mun EghiyE - Going up to the lovely graceful(like a peacock) lady who was on the "tinai" fields,
"aDi pUvaiyE unadu tanjam"

dEsu koNDa bhAratanda - having shining heavy tusks
aNDar dEvatAruvaik-karattAl piDikkumE - grabs the Kalpaka trees of the gods with their trunks,
shuTrum mEviya kiLaiyai vaLaittoDikkumE - encircles and breaks the branches all around ,
oLir sEya candranODurinju - sipping along with the bright moon (?)
palAmarangaLilE nerungiya tInkani madhu rasattai vaDikkumE - drains the sweet nectar of jackfruits that grow densely on the jackfruit trees and
mandi pAngil ninradanai aLLik-kuDikkumE - the female monkeys stand nearby and cup this nectar with their hands and drink it.
(The moon connection is not clear. Hope someone can explain)

kandaram torum kiDandu - Living in every cave,
kandaram bhayam todunga garjanai puriyum - roaring such that ones' throat goes dry with fear
tiral singamE - the lion himself
nenjil accamura - experiences fear in his heart
viNNurai mAtangamE taDangAvilE - when the heavenly elephant (Airavata) comes to the huge forest ,
siladAvilE vaLar mAvirAl naDuvE (not clear)
kirAdigargaL kArmukham eyum kaNaigaL ErumE - the arrows that the hunters shoot from their bows rise,
adil vAr madhuvAl - and because of the honey that spurts out ( due to the arrows)
vAri uvar mArumE - the sea loses it salinity
vEDaminnAr - The hunters’ women
kAlavaDi vEl neDiya vAL koDiya nAgam umizh kAri piNai vAri kaNaibAnalE anna kUr nayana - with darting eyes sharp as black spears, long swords and arrows that spit fire like the cruel cobra’s venom,
EnalE kAkkum kAlai - while they protect their fields
mEleri poduvAr kavaNODu mAmaNi dEsuvisavE - and send up huge gems on their slings (to scare away birds that come to feed on the crop),
kadiravan tanadu mukham shuzhikkumE - the sun god frowns
avan kudiraiyum kaNNai shurukki vizhikkumE - and his horses blink and stare.

Olamali kOla nIla vElai shUzhum - which is surrounded by the noisy beautiful blue waves,

vaitta pala cittira sOpAnamE enna - that grow as if they were a lovely staircase set up
uTravar inbattuDanE vAnamE sella - for dear ones (devotees) to climb happily to heaven,
onrODonru vambu koNDu nILumE - stretch as if to tease/fight one another
kOLgaL senru senru ninru ninru mILumE - and the heavenly bodies weave in and out through them

Rajani - I am taking in the meaning you have given SLOWLY! - Our response to you 'Phew' is a mere thanks!
Annamalai Reddiar must have been some composer to pack these songs (that were supposedly composed with the purpose of keeping weariness at bay when his patron went on a tIrtha yAtra to murugan sthalams) with words so pregnant with philosophical and mythical references. Thank you for your patience again.

You bring the sylvan scene in all its vividness. Grand description of the terrain. Then again, tamizh lit and Murugan are very much part Nature, aren't they? I tried to find some meaning out of the line you said was unclear. I do get some sense in a few words but do not know his drift, so I abstain from making guesses.
I eagerly wait to read your translations in tamizh and sanskrit!

Yes, phew ! awesome, Rajani - thanks again for grinding away on this, with patience. When you've had a good break - could you possibly extend a hand with, and continue on, another philosophical piece where Ravi started the translation and completed two caranams out of four? Like Ravi says, the whole nine yards can only be imbibed in small doses...
