This concert was organised by Padma Sarangapani Educational Trust at Virugambakkam on 10th October 2009. Shri TMK already a well established artiste in the top bracket enthralled the audience with his mesmerising powerful voice that is capable of reaching 3 1/2 octaves easily. Actually earlier Veena artistes used to emulate the vocal artistes and the term came as Vainika Gayaka. Whereas TMK is emulating the capabily of veena which is having 3 1/2 octaves so he can be called a gayaka vainika.
Right from the start the concert was a great hit with no audience stirring out of their seat 90% due to his music and 10% due to fear of TMK picking them out and asking them to sit through.
The concert started of excellently with "Rama Nannu Brovara" harikambojhi was rendered (rupaka tala) with excellent fast paced swara passages in 3/4 idam at "Meppulakai kannathavu".
Saramathi was rendered next with superb creative 3 octave and even more may be (im not that good at hitting swaras) with Vittal providing equal accompaniment and showing a melodic colour during his rendition. "Manasaramathiani sivan maganai" (of tanjavur shankara iyer) was the kriti rendered. Shobillu saptaswara came as a filler before an elaborate Nalinakanthi.
Until this point TMK's self was quiet and suddenly after Raga Alapana and violin turn he started singing Tanam. At that point of time i was wondering whether he was going to sing an RTP. But later it turned out to be "Manavinala kinchara" rendered in not so fast phase. Here again he emulated the veena tradition of rendering tanam for the Main item.
Irakkam varamal, Elarana (Javali), Khamas Thillana and Mangalam followed as the post thani sections.
TMK Stood out best in Saramathi and Nalinakanthi and was a picture of both concentration and creativity at the same time enjoying the accompaniment of Vittal, me and Anirudh.
Vittals version of Nalinakanthi explored different perspective of that raga.
Once again Anirudh Athreya stood out excellent both during the song accompaniment and also during tani avartanam by playing ever green V.Nagarajan mama's phrases.
One big concert to remember for a long time.

Member Rasika911 Actually the pallavi is "Rama Nannu broavara" is sung in samam only whereas the "Meppulakai kannathavu" starts 3/4 idam after samam that is what i have meant.
Member Bilahari there was no niraval in Nalinakanthi. There was an excellent streak of vilamba kala swara passages providing ample scope for the rhythmic side to relaxedly explore the laya variations.

I have never been to this sabha, but in so called tier 2 sabhas there is an element of an artist trying to try some thing new with new sparks of manodharmam coming out. In this case I am assuming it was the tAnam before nalinakAnthi krithi. This usually does not that much happen in tier 1 sabhas. Keep it going TMK

I don't know how many have observed that in the song "Manasara madhiyane sivan maganai" has the name of the raga- Mana "saramati" yanai..
Maharajapuram S rendered this once "saramathi" separately.
