This is a request for Bangalore based Forum members!
On this forum, we get very minimal report of Karnataka based artistes like Nagamani Srinath, Nagavalli Nagaraj, M S Sheela, Sukanya Prabhakar, T S Satyavathi, Suma Sudhindra, R K Padmanabha, Bangalore Shankar, Manasi Prasad, Vinay Sharva and many others who perform regularly in Bangalore music circles.
We do get to read Bangalore concert reviews but these artistes mentioned and many others are not much reported about.
I request Bangalore based Rasikas to please attend these concerts and report to us!
Thanks!

I was smiling when I looked at this post and may be others might also smile.
We discuss here about very few vidwans whose concerts are being written about
again and again and many are missed even in chennai based circle. Prince, Srivalson
are discuused only now. Vijay Siva is more often discussed nowadays though he was
completely absent a year back. Most lady artist are missed except Soumya. When
Aruna and Sudha are discussed, it ends up in bashing their songlist/style. TMK, Sanjay
and TNS are followed at every concert.
Nowadays with some specific people (writing reviews) , there is
more balanced reviews and more coverage extending to new artists which is very good. My feelings is , if
you attend any of the above artist's concerts , please write the songlist and that will create
some interest in people to attend and report here. A 'neatly formatted song list' gives a clue of their
style, ideas and innovation.

Good suggestions, Rajgalan.
Yes, there are reviews these days of more performers than before, from more cities than before.
You are right about posting at least a song list of a concert one attends. Yes, others chip in, if they have been there too. Nick calls it a report, and we do have the Concert Report thread now (a sticky).
I do not know if it is only because they are stars that some get reviewed more. Compared to others, they give many more concerts and so that could be a factor too. We tend to attend and report more on concerts of member-performers as well.

Sreeni - Also friday review section in Hindu will help you. They cover non-popular performers.
It is not that one doesn't want to attend non-popular artists. For people like who stay far away from concert venues need motivation to travel);- If Manasi prasad sings in Malleshwaram i may not go. If she sings in Indira Nagar sabha chances are bright. Also there are tons of backlogs of music to listen at home most of the time. So, it is a hard choice.

I agree here very much. There is a list of TBHeard albums and downloads always at home waiting. And the nearness of the sabha. I wass_hari wrote:Sreeni - Also friday review section in Hindu will help you. They cover non-popular performers.

thinking about Mansai prasad when I wrote about this and Hari, you seem to have the same artist in mind. I heard her once and it was
a jugalbandhi. And hence like to listen to her usual concert.
And Blore is a bad place for night bus journey , especially the bmtc buses are unpredictable after 830pm. An ideal concert time for Blore, is
morning concerts (like bharat sangeet utsav conducted 2 years back) or an evening concert starting at 530pm both on a saturday evening.
The BMTC is very good for day time even better than Chennai.
Arasi, your point on more concerts by TMK and Sanjay must also be true.

Thanks for the above responses!
We all are aware of the fact that throughout human history many deserving artistes have not earned much fame, for various reasons.
We are also aware of the fact that this exact trend is happening even to this day in karnAtic music world also.
Being aware of this, we have two choices - first choice is to do something to correct this situation. Second choice is, to continue to systematically ignore many deserving artistes so that they may never come out of the oblivion, and continue to systematically glorify the select few (stars).
The choice is, purely, ours.
A debate of a long duration on this topic can be conducted and will have supporters in both camps. A long list of issues (reasons, excuses?) such as transportation issues to concert venue, more choice to listen at home, "¦"¦ can be compiled and argued about.
The fact is that the same issues apply to the select few stars also but they will continue to get good attendance and good coverage. This is because the rasikas have chosen the second option.

Dear Rasikas,
Even though I reside at Chennai, I am a regular visitor to Bangalore to be with my son and his family and stay for 15 to 20 days.
There is no proper bold entertainment columns like the Chennai edition of the Hindu paper.None of the English papers prominantly print the concert programmes on a daily basis.
Added to this, commuting from home to the concert halls [Most of the sabhas are in far off places] by buses is a headache and we have to travel by autorickshas only.
