Nada Inbam

Raga Sudha Hall, November 14, 2009

cAlamEla rA? - mArga hindOLam - Adi - T (R?)
kOrina varamosagumayya - rAmapriya - rUakam - PSI (R, NS @ janaka shrIvatsalAnga ...)
mAramaNan umAramaNan - hindOLam - rUpakam - PS
kA guhA! ShaNmugA nIyE - kOshalam - rUpakam - KI
satatam tAvaka pada sEvanam - kharaharapriya - Adi - ST (R, NS@ mamahrdI ...)
cintayE mahAlinga mUrtim - paras - Adi - MD
shankarAcAryam - shankarAbharaNam - Adi - R, ...

There might've been a varNam before cAlamEla rA. The songs were all well-chosen. Even though rAmaprya and kOshalam aren't exactly rakti rAgas, they have their own charm, and are brought out well in the compositions taken up in this concert. The manodharma (from both Smt. Sumathi and Shri Raghul) in rAmapriya was also very chaste.

Kharaharapriya was also handled well. I liked the composition, which was a new one for me, and I found it refreshing. :)

The shankarAbharaNam AlApanai was good in parts. It was probably the main piece.

Shri Ramakrishnan (on mridangam) played very cooperatively, and demonstrated good anticipation.

Prashant can perhaps tell us about it.

My Guru Smt.R. Vedavalli, (RV) has composed many a small verse, couplets and short poems on topics of socio-personal-moral relevance particularly straight simple ones for children to learn , with the same essence of an Aathi Chudi or KuraL. Very lofty thoughts in simple language , so that it can be easily memorised and also sung. The composition sung above was one such.
