Sanjay-Varadarajan-Venkatesh, SSVT Maryland

(Missed first two pieces)

3. mundu venuka ? -- darbAr -- tyAgarAja

4. pADa vENDumE -- hamsanAdam -- Dandapani Desikar (R, N, S at pallavi)

5. shivakAmasundari -- mukhAri -- Papanasam Sivan, kriti begun at anupallavi

6. sundarEshvarAya namastE -- shankarAbharaNam -- muttusvAmi dIkShitar (R, S at pallavi)

7. kalangAdE -- rAgavardhanI -- Kotisvara Iyer

8. RTP -- paTdIp -- khaNda tripuTa (gOvindA alarmEl mangai maNALa ... didn't register all the words) The arudi was atypical and comprised of three letters (maNALa). rAgamAlikA svaras were in kuntaLavarALi, bhUpAlam and darbArI kanaDa. The darbArI svaras led to the tillAnA and there was no return to paTdIp at the end.

9. tillAnA -- darbArI kAnaDa

(Missed other tukkaDas)

If you attended the concert, please fill in the pieces I missed.

Notes:

1. The concert was simply awesome. I don't understand the fascination behind prefixing Sanjay's name with 'Bolt'. I would much rather prefix Usain Bolt's name with 'Sanjay' or 'Subrahmanyan'.

2. The hall was packed (about 200-strong) despite the concert not being publicized well on the internet. Except for a mention in a corner of the SSVT monthly newsletter, there was no indication of the concert anywhere. Perhaps there were announcements in the temple for the benefit of regular temple-goers and that was considered sufficient publicity.

3. I noticed that persons making requests were going up to the stage instead of throwing pieces of paper at Sanjay. Sanjay's complaint about the latter method in his podcast did help!

Best,
Ganesh

I think the first song was in hindolam. The thukkdas included a purandara dasa composition, a compostion in behag and a viruttham. (I am a newbie and not familiar with tamil compositions!!) It was the first Sanjay concert I attended and needless to say it was superb. @Ganesh...I thought the second raga in the RTP ragamalika was Vasanthi.

No, it was definitely bhupALam -- possibly bowLi, if I wasn't paying attention, but I will still place my bets on bhUpALam.
