Shubha Ganesan's Concert At Shanmukhapriya on 30th November.
Accompanied by Violin Melakaveri Thyagarajan, Balaji mrithangam,H Sivaramakrishan Ghatam.

As an ardent MLV rasika, it is pleasure to listen to Shubha, and happy that she maintains the class and standard of music, which is very special to the MLV school. Those who are interested in traditional carnatic music should attend Shubha's concerts. For the benefit of those who missed her concert at Shanmukapriya on 30th Nov, I am happy to share/post my comments.

Shubha,
Commenced with a Tamil Varnam Swami Unnai Arabi a rare piece, which was rendered very gracefully in two speeds.

Pantuvarali was good, the concert was at its best in the Natabhairavi , the raga alapana brought her brilliance, srivalli devasenapathe is a treat.

Nannupalimpa and the Mohanam alapana preceeding the song were very well sung with imagination highlighting all the phrases and bringing out the essence of the raga, Her kalpanaswaras were detailed and lively .

J Balaji was very good and played very appropriately for all the pieces. He rendered a brisk thani with intricated korvais and Sivaramakrishna gave a good support throughout.

A concert of good quality, presented in a very refined manner.

Does anyone have audio of this varnam?
Papansam Sivan has composed many brilliant pieces that are never sung in concerts unless popularised by a particular artist.

is it a pada varnam, or thana varnam?? Papanasam sivan has composed many pada varnams also.

vasika you have mentioned only about the vocalist and percussionists??
Didnt mention anything about the violinist. A concert will not shine without the contrribution of a violinist.

there are varnams in dhanyasi and panthuvarali which are pada varnams of Papanasam sivan and i have heard sangitha kalanidhi D K Jeyaraman mama rendering in few concerts, such a beautiful varnam and DKJ sir renders it very aesthetically, The Arabhi Varnam "Swami Unnai" is not a pada varnam, its only a tana varnam.

As Uma1973 mentioned, Shubha's concert was very well supported by Melakkaveri Thiagarajan in Violin and J.Balaji in Mirdangam.

I had mentioned about Balaji, but missed Thiagrajan's, support which was indeed worth mentioning.

Thiagrajan rendered a well drafted mohanam ragam.

Thanks Uma for pointing out,

Great to hear from one more artist member.
Vasika, may be you can write more details like what Rajesh pointed out.
Let me market the new members (I guess easy to convince) for
standardisation of song list. Pls have a look at thread for writing songlist.
