While I leave the comprehensive observations of the concert to other members who attended, Iwould like to make a special mention of the Alapana for Subhapantuvarali piece (Ennalum Urage) where GG traversed through all the octaves effortlessly with a soft tinge of Srutibedam in Tilang which could easily become the best pick of the season. Similarly, the scholarly way the Bilahari Kruti Sri Chamundeeswari was presented could be stated to have achieved in bringing out the emotion what the vaggeyakkara had in his mind while composing the song, Especially the neraval in "raka nishakara Sannibha Vadane'

10) Thillana - Sindubhairavi
The concert centered around the truly wonderful Shubhapanthuvarali. The Dhenuka was well rendered. The Pasuram was announced to be that of Peyaazhwar's and the meaning was appropriate for the Papanasam Sivan Krithi that followed. The Bilahari Alapanai was very neatly done and it was a quite elaborate rendition complete with Neraval and a good round of Swarams. The beautiful Gamakam in the Madhyamam with a soothing descent is always a nice feature and this was employed to good effect in the first speed Swarams. The violinist's responses were good here too.
But the concert personally attained its heights for me with the main. The Shubhapanthuvarali was one of the best I've ever heard. It was very elaborate with the Alapanai for about 15-16 minutes. Every feature of the Ragam was exhausted methodically. The Prayogams centered around the haunting Rishabham-Gandharam combination were good. Personally, could feel a deeply pensive and reflective mood pervading right through. Been quite a while since I heard even a fairly elaborate Shubhapanthuvarali. The Thyagaraja Krithi was sung well and there was a good exchange of Swarams with some fine Poruthams at Sati Matala. The Tani that followed was nice as well.
Post main, liked the Behag.
The Shubhapanthuvarali made it one of those instances where one wishes to discuss the nuances all day with someone. One rendition that will stay on in my memories..
