The concert was boxed from 10 till 12-10 , as there was another concert to follow. SuryaprakAsh had a stunning team in both left and right flank ,there was all round excellence in this concert.

The start was in begada varnam with raja rao getting into full form. mmgowlai has a special charm , i think it gives a level of comfort for every one in the stage especially rAjarao , song was excellent with some bountiful strokes and gumkhis in arpa sugathai maranthOM , the swaras were very much like semmangudi mAmA , very quick and the flow was fast.

The marukElarA was quick and nice , the contrast of nAttaikurinji with its gentle slope everywhere was well done , the krithi and swaras were sung with lot of azhuttam with some exceptional return from right flank violinist MAS.

The next rAga was not announced , i felt it had a major subhapantuvarali with a little touch up of kalyAni, I have not heard this suvarnAngi much , the krithi was superb with the neraval line in s t r e t c h e d suvarnAngi was excellent .

I did not like the filler mahAlakshmi , because it was a filler to a filler (I guess the perils of short concerts). bhairavi as a main was excellent with no time wasting saNgathis it was really gripping and the krithi rendition was very well done , There was no neraval for this number and the swaras were only for 8 mins definitely less than the usual suryaprakash, but it was evident that he was allocating more time for RTP

The RTP in its glory was hamsAnandi , the rAga that comes too naturally for their school and really most suited for one of the most ringing voice of suryaprakAsh .The alApanai was sung with superb aggression , tAnam was outstanding in all three speeds with the last 2 mins high speed very very aesthetic . The pallavi line was his recent creation , the pallavi line was apt and was embellished well by rAja rAo with bountiful strokes and for dakshina and uttara his swaras in darbAr and beHag was well done , behAg was a shade better.

Arasi and her arasan(krishnan sir) were there in the crowd , the kalyAna vasantham , flag ship krithi of our forums flagship vaggeyakkara was sung beautifully, (nice to see arasi's face was more glowing there). The theme of tukkadas was "will tomorrow come", it came with arasi's inru varuvAno nAlaiyO , immediately jumped into somu nAlai endru ,and finally eppO varUvarO , all were excellent with certainly arasi's number leading the pack.

MA Sundaresan and RAja rAo /EMS :
--------------------------------
Any musician is lucky to get this kind of accompanist. MAS (MSG-MSA's best performing sishyA)was stunning ,being a short concert his play had the essence and he was like agassi returning for the becker serve. His play in hamsAnandi with his parur-msa-msg trademark of cut bowing was excellent .

Energy energy and energy that was srimushnam raja rao sir , his understanding of lyrics and effortless play was superb. Every number he embellished very well and as Krishan sir told me his play was very colorful.EMS also played well ,their tani was well done.

Incidentally parthasarathi swami sabha always is considered as more thamizh bastion , hence like all musicians of past and present there is a slight thamizh overdose of krithis.

Overall an excellent concert, for a 2 hour plus boxed concert this was handled exceptionally well by the entire team. I ,arasi and krishnan sir had kAsi halwA and kumbakonam coffee keeping with the uttara dakshina sangamam pallavi in mind ;) .

* If there is any pointer of recording for this mayuram vishwanatha sAstri in suvarnAngi help me out please.

Rajesh,

Didn't realise you were in the concert. I'm not expert reviewer like you.

Very nice to hear the rendition of the kriti of Her Majesty in her presence. It is a superb composition and I am sure Suryaprakash did full justice. Apparently he was constrained by the lack of time.
I guess it must be
"mELa rAga swara naNdini mecha kaNgi mrithbUshanai"
...never heard it before, me either!

Thanks Vasanthakokilam for the encouragement. I will try to keep it rolling till 27th. Hopefully, my trademark laziness, will not get the better of me.

So you were there and today we met , nice to see a young guy like you. You and srinivasrgvn are the two guys who have an intellect far greater than your age. Keep it going.

Few more points About the concert:
----------------------------------------
You felt hamsAnandi was bit too short and few prayogams were different . Personally found that this rAgA hamsAnandi is at the cross roads of carnatic and hindustani and MAS took it with his wonderful reply and speed towards more hindustani, hence prayogams were slightly different . The tAnam was packed with sangathis and was well done.

I felt at the middle of the concert , MAS taking the tampurA and tuning the shruthi for perhaps more than 2 minutes ate away the mood a bit. Incidentally I was chuckling where at the end of behAg , rAja rAo playing another few minutes of a mini tani ate away the sangathis where in few swara patterns in reverse order and landing back in pallavi was passed by suryaprakAsh because of the mini tani(did you feel that way??) .

It looks in this kutcheri season , so far two pallavis by sanjay and suryaprakAsh in the last one week , both of them sang with gay abandon to start with but ended up abandoning the pallavi ;) , sanjay opted on his own to abandon ,here in this case suryaprakash did not get the baton back from rAja rAo on time.

By the way I understood every word of your review excepting the title "தகà¯ÂÂ

"good" and "bad" are very subjective. While I thought, the trhanam was delivered in haste, you seem to have really liked it.

Yup, you said darbAr was nice, I felt he did not do any justice to darbAr it was too short. Keep writing , you have a great style and your thamizh is awesome not just here in this review which was very good to excellent , your ramnad krishnan dvd write up is outstanding and the other write up of an essay of gopAlakrishna bharathi was outstanding plus plus...
