Prarthana converted the dull evening of a cloudy Sunday into a crunchy sundae with her rendition.

She commenced her recital with the sloka ‘jnAnAnandha mayam dhEvam’ in saveri and presented the varnam in a faster kAlapramANam which was followed by vara vallabha ramana. The very beginning of Shriranjani alapana was great as she kept madhyama sruthi and gave a perfect sruthi alligned rendition. Marubalka was sung in two kaLai Adhi.

In niravathi, the highlight was the niraval at ‘mAmava maragatha’ followed by swaras. Incidently, I played the 35 (tha,,, dhi,,, ki,,, na,,, thom,,, tha, dhi,ki,na,thom, thadhikinathom)from samam for mAmava which occurs 3 after samam and her final abiprAyam for the swara prasthAram was
the same too!

Her eleven minutes Sankarabharanam was good and the krithi sahajaguna had some interesting sangathis in pallavi and niraval at parama bakthudaina were effective. Anand displayed good art. I played chathusra gathi and kaNda gathi.

The concert came to an end after nArAyaNA and mAyanai.

Prarthana has a good voice and she sings open throated, keeping a decent distance from the mike which helps her produce the tonal beauties and chinnadhu-perusu in a laudable manner.
