I had the privilage to attend the morning concert of Smt.Parasala Ponnammal at Music Academy.
The early morning air was filled with absolutely solid, serene and un-adultrated classical music. No fan fair & no frills, but soulful music and it was astonishing to witness such versatality. Listing of songs would be a mere formality.
Just for the records.....a brief list......
Varnam in Ananda Bhairavi
Muladhara in MM Gowla on lord ganesha
Narasimha in Arabhi
Durusuga of Syamasastri with chitta swaram and swara sahityam as sub main.
Yendhuku Peddala in Shankarabharanam as Main.
Shankarabharanam of the Violin artist was very interesting.
Thani by Cheluvaraju was very subtle and in line with the main artist.
This could be one of the best concerts of the season..

What can one say about Smt Ponammal's music.? She brings about so much of bhava in her singing and the Swaras she sang in Sankarabharanam were soaked in Raga Bhavam.
Saveri was excellent too. I was expecting Pari Pahi but nevertheless not disappointed at Durusuga.
I thought of Arasi when Smt Ponammal sang a soulful Yadukala Kambodhi of Maharaja Swati Tirunal ( was it mOhanamayi ? )
In these days of discussions on volumes of percussions instruments, it was wonderful to see Sri Cheluvaraj coax the mridangam so subtly to produce a soothing & wonderful accompaniment.
I am attaching 2 pictures of the concert. (Would be grateful if some one could fill in the names of the violin and Ghatam vidwans)
Attaching a few pictures I had taken at the concert.
The second picture has Smt Jayalakshmi Santhanam along with my daughter standing next to Smt Ponammal after the concert.
