R.Suryapraksh presented a special programme titled AMUDUM THENUM in Infosys hall, Ramakrishna Muission School, Bazulla Road, T.Nagar. The accompaniments were
Sureshbabu- Violin
Mannarkoil Balaji-Mridangam
Tenkasi Paramasivam-Kanjira
A.S.Krishnan-Morsing
Venkatasubramaniam-Tabla

At the outset he explained the concept. AMUDHU represented the traditional carnatic music and THEN the vintage film songs based on carnatic music. He furhter appreicated the MUDHRA audience who have been groomed to appreciate four hour concerts, one raga one song concerts etc. The list of songs.
AMUDHU
1.Vinayaka- Hamsadhwani-Adi-Veena KuppAiyer
2.Subramanyena-Sudhadhanyasi-Adi- Deekshitar
3.Mariverdik-Shanmugapriya-Adi-Patnam Subramania Iyer
4.Thiruvadi saranam-Kambodi-Adi-Gopalakrishna Bharathi followed by thani.
THEN
1.Annayum thanthayum thane- Kapi
2.Kodayile ilaipatti-Virutham-Ragamalika
3.Maname kanamum maravathe-Karnatake devagandhari
4.Krishna mukunda murare
5.Parkadal alaimele-Ragamalika
6.Maname nee eesan namathai-Kunthalavarali
7.Deenakarunakarane Nataraja
8.Sathwaguna bodhan- Jonpuri
9.Unnai allal oru thurumbasayumo-Natabhairavi

The AMUDHU portion was rendered well. Swaras in second kalam were rendered for Vinayaka and Subramanyena. Mariveredik was decorated with elaborate alapana and neraval at Sannuthanga sree but absence of swaras after such elaborate neraval gave a feeling that something is incomplete. Neraval could have been made simpler and a few rounds of swarams attempted. Kambodi alapana was good and there were neraval at Aduthu vantha ennai and swaras in two kalas in MMI/TVS style.
The audience enjoyed the THEN segment fully. While introducing the accompanists, he referred ÃÂÂ

Any idea where / how one can get hold of the SGK version of this song? I heard Suryaprakash sing this at Bharat Kalachar last year and have been wanting to hear the original since then.

It was a superb concert by my good-old friend RSP. He was in full form for the Amudu Part which i enjoyed thouroughly. The best thing RSP did was to split the concert into two parts thereby easing things for the accompanying artistes as well as for the listeners. He had full justification for doing so and he did full justification for both the parts. His Kambhoji will ring in my ears for a very long time. His full throated voice capable of wide clear ranges produced some excellent phrases in both Shanmukhapriya as well as kambojhi. While his shanmukhapriya had the flavour of MMIyer his kambojhi showed his originality and his flair for immense creativity.

Accompaniment by Sureshbabu on violin, Paramasivam on Khanjira and ASKrishnan on morsing saw to it that they didnt hinder the flow of Surya's creativity and also aided him perfectly when he required their support.

It was a great experience for me personally..

Rajeshnat ... i missed u and ur review ... was eagerly expecting u to come and write a review since u r a diehard RSP fan....

On this forum there are many members who are currently performing artists. However, it seems that only the mridangam vidwans are willing to appreciate the music of their peers. Full credit to J. Balaji and Erode Nagaraj to post here and share their thoughts. BUT...why shouldnt we see vocalists appreciating the violinist or the mridangam artist?
Hopefully this changes.
