Enjoyable concert overall.
Highlight was the Bharathiar song, Chuttum Vizhi, early in the concert - TMK surprised everyone singing this beautiful song in Ragamalika with alapanai and svaram in all four ragas. RKS responded beautifully. After singing all four ragams with fairly dramatic switches, he sand two lines each in these four ragas progressively and sand svaram for each. It was quite novel and enjoyable.
I felt Devi Brova was a little too slow, but nice.
TMK made an effort to distinguish Gamakakriya from Purvikalyani, stating PDS is a distinguishing pidi for Gamakakriya and MDNS in Purvikalyani. PDPS is acceptable in both, but TMK avoided it. I felt RKS did a better portrayal of the raga alapanai.
Karaharapriya RTP was sweet and short. No Tisram or trikalam done.
There was an annoying interruption with the organizers trying to make an announcement during thani, wanting to read a bunch of licence plates of cars to be moved out of the way for the Chief Minister - TMK was clearly annoyed, but, took the list, and read the alphanumeric gobbledegook to beat while keeping thalam. The audience joined the mockery and it was quite amusing!
TMK showed he could traverse three octaves and his voice was in great shape considering he has been singing almost everyday for the past two weeks.
Percussion was very good, but, there was nothing subtle about Bhakthavatsalam's performance - everything was bright and loud.

The two arohanas of poorvikalyani im aware of are SRGMPDPS or SRGMDS. And as far as im aware the only difference in gamakakriya is that you dont sing PDPS. If i am wrong i would appreciate being corrected.

When did he mention this?sridharan wrote:You are right. I meant GMDS. I should avoid late-night posting......GOD complex also had crept in making me switch 'd' and 'g'.
Regarding PDPS.....quoting TMK, it is common, but PDS is unique to Gamakakriya.
