Madurai TN Seshagopalan - VV Ravi - Trichur Narendran
Narada Gana Sabha - 23 Dec 2009
Sami ninne - Sri varnam
Vandanamu - Sahana (S)
Sloka followed by Meenakshi memudam - Purvikalyani (RNS)
Eppadi manam - Huseni
Nadupai balikeru - Madhyamavathi (S)
Slokas followed by Kizhvanam - Dhanyasi (Andal pasuram)
Devi brova - Chintamani (RNS)
Slokas - Ragamalika
Sathguru?? - sounded like Jonpuri
2.5 hour concert. Took the Purvikalyani alapana for TNS's voice to warm up. He was at his best during Huseni, Dhanyasi songs and Chintamani alapana and slokas - bhavam laden renditions. His voice did not cooperate (and at one point he sent a sishya to get him some medication). That did not prevent him from elaborate kanakku swaras (which took away the mood he built for the song)... Somehow the concert did not take off....

Yes, indeed it was. Relaxed soothing alapana, teaching the listeners, what chinthamani is, followed by an amazing neraval with interesting and intelligent swaraprasthara. There was ofcourse quite a bit of kanakku in the swaras for devi brova, but never the rasika felt it taxing since it was replete with bhava. Infact that has been the hallmark of TNS style., Kanakkus with absolute ragabhavam, thus enabling the average rasika to a very knowledgable vidwan to enjoy his music.
The Huseni krithi was rendered in a most exemplary manner. No words to describe it. I personally felt that sita herself was pouring out her feelings on stage. I wonder any artist could bring the various hues of Huseni like how TNS did.
Once again an amazing concert from the Master. Never did I feel that his voice did not cooperate. Infact Sri TNS' voice has been in fine fettle right from the first concert of this season. He has been in an incredible form. The Kalyani in his first concert, Kedaragowla and atana at Mudhra, Breathtaking Charukesi at Bharath Kalachar, mesmerising Keeravani at KGS, Awesome Hemavathi for Carnatica, Amazing thodi at karthik Fine arts, superb classical Karaharapriya at MFA and Ahiri- Surutti pallavi for Parthasarathy Swamy sabha all stand as proof to the vidwat and form of this one and only musician of the century.
