Awsome, out of the world concert for 2-1/2 hour duration. Blessed were those attended.. Actually well attended one! Each of the pieces and manOdharma parts were handled extremely well, and great treat to watch. Veena support was good. Sri Mali played some great patterns and tani was also very enjoyable. At her age (86?), mAmi played exceptionally well. She also sang sahitya in places, which added more color to rendering. A great day to remember for long long time. Darbarikanada tillana of Muthaiah bhagavathar was rare one, and gangE mAm pAhi was a different version than i have heard before. Look at post tani items!!! no cow or buffaloes anywhere!!

She played nonstop for 2 hours, and then there were requests. Then she asked "mudichudatuma?" and there were more requests! Again, "mudichudatuma?" -- even more requests! :D And she obliged them all! I was totally stunned!

What a concert it was!

I always used to read this artist as kalpaakkam swaminathan ( a male artist). Tukkada section looks like
Maharajapuram style.

pattamma and srkris (if you're reading this), I think it's totally ridiculous to even contrast KS / PP with people singing vishamakara kannan / maadu meikkum kanne. The mention of these songs, directly or indirectly after reading the post-tani list of KS or PP is needless.

It may be seen that the post thani pieces of KS/PP also were also grand compositions of saint composers. They had weight in their sahithyam and music and can be fitted anywhere in the concert- even during the middle of the concert. That makes the concert of KS or PP mami touch your hearts.
In this context I would like to add that I heard PP mami at Bharat Kalachar and tears rolled off from my eyes many a times- this never happened to me before. That is the greatness of their music. Immediately after the thani, another octogenarian, Mrs.YGP who was in the audience thanked PP mami for coming all the way from TVM and giving such a soulful concert. She wondered that mami who is past 84 is capable of singing for another 2 hours and without any strain in her vocal chords. This speaks of the enormous training she would have had in her young days. She added that the young musicians of today should listen to mami's music and imbibe the qualities.

It was a stunning concert. It was truly soul stirring and inspiring morning for many of us. It was great concert and moving too. Exceptional concert for 2.5 hours.

Mami has no comparison at all. She is one by herself and a living legend.
