SuryaprakAsh and gOpinAth are cherished by me always as there is always a competition in aesthetics and shruthi sudham. With the aesthetic combination (no mridangam banging)easwaran was a double treat.The start in pantuvarAli was very good , there were few volume problems in this sabhA for the first number which is always a feature .
bahudAri did the kutcheri kalai kuttufying act , superb returns by the violinst and swara patterns with the fast rolling fingers of easwaran was excellent. darbAr alApana was fairly detailed (no second opinion with nAyaki this time) and there was a very beautiful diction in the krithi . The contrast of Ahiri was nice reminded me more that I could have had a better breakfast but gnambika with arasi were waiting post this concert.
The kAPi nArayani was awesome , particularly the neraval and swaras , with jayaram (our forumite from UK)sitting next to me , he was very happy, though the neraval had few shades of madura mani , swaras were manOdharmam to the core , superb patterns with easwaran it was a double treat.
I am not a big fan of hemavati , the krithi was a classic dikshitar madi madi sangeetham as per jayaram , but to me it was very good to excellent , swaras were bit measured and well done .But certainly his sanskrit diction was noteworthy.
The day belonged to chArukEsi RTP, the same pallavi line he had taken in academy last year in shanmughapriyA ,this year in charukEsi was a slight surprise .The alApana was awesome , the tAnam had three speeds with easwaran joining with his laya aesthetics , there were rounds of applauses .
The pallavi was well done with a trikAlam, but to me the pick of manodharmam was his kalpana in swara rAga mAliga .suryaprakash usually takes the pallavi line and replaces iRu thisaiyin with vada and then thisayin (North and south)and sing respective rAgas from carnatic and hindustani.But today the kalpana quotient was a notch or two higher , he sang more like TRS type with a superb combo creative quotient of his won .
TRS sings the pallavi line in the respective swara rAga maliga starting with neraval and then going to swaras . i would say TRS is the creator of that concept of preceding neraval with swaras , this gives more mileage. Suryaprakash took first the vada thisaiyin and then sang few avarthana swaras in hindustani malkauns and then sang a long swaras in then thisaiyiN with hindOlam. Then the violin return was a carbon copy and exceptionally well done by gopinath.
If malkauns- hindOlam was excellent , the next pair was outstanding , he transposed then and vada thisaiyiN in the same fashion with a minute or two of kAnadA neraval and swaras and then darbAri was gushing full throated and was stunningly original and aesthetic.Overall a very satisfying pallavi , no short circuiting of either ragam or tanam or pallavi or swaras, pallavi was for pallavi's sake.
The last two tukkadas in shurutti and sindhubhairavi was done well and gave a good finish .
Easwaran sir was awesome , his play was full of strokes and he gave a good chance for morsing artist to play.The morsing artist had a early morning syndrome he was not using that much playing twang twang . Their tani was short and crisp giving more way for pallavi (38 minutes).
There were two shortcomings, one was possibly the relatively low degree of play by mOrsing and the other is a slight overspeed in shiva peruman by both vocalist and mridangist.
Nice to bump with jayaram in the sabha along with Ashok Madhav, jayaram is UK version of US -arasi, he attends 3 to 4 concerts per day, he attended this vidwan for two consecutive days. Overall an excellent concert, exhibition of manOdharma sangeetham at its best.
