MA is known for observing conventions strictly.
On going through the MA programme list I find the following artists have not given their programme list. We have seen this in the past.
Sangeetha Kalanidhis
1. T.N.Seshagopalan
2. T.V.Sankaranarayan
Others
1. Aruna Sayeeram
2. TM Krishna
3. Bombay Jaishree
4. Sanjay Subramaniam
5. Shashank
I wish Academy insist all artists to provide the list of items except those singing in the morning slot. It helps the artists & the Rasikas. Is it to provide some surprises that these artists didn’t provide the list? What is there to provide as surprise? I don’t understand. Also it is sickening to see Tambura string being plucked by many of the tambura players. There is technique & grace in Tambura playing. Academy should provide professional Tambura artists to even 12 Noon concerts. MA must insist that every artist must use Tambura to improve Sruthi Sense of artist & Rasikas.
Dos & don’ts for the sake of serious rasikas inside the auditorium
MA must paste this list in the auditorium or on the doors & in Souvenir
1. No reading of Paper & Magazines
2. Strict silence to be maintained
3. No humming of the Ragas, Songs
4. No loud Tala keeping
5. No exchange of greetings after the concert begins
6. No pan chewing
7. Entry & exit shall be permitted only during gaps.
8. No standing ovation in the middle of the concert.
9. No seat booking
10. No mobile use. Seize it if someone uses.
I experienced all the above in Gayatri Venkatragavan prog in MA last evening.

I find everything very meaningful. But you will see most resistance, when you introduce anything as rule.
And implementation of some of these are difficult. I guess the list of songs be a surprise for all. I personally
like reading something when something is not to my liking but still like to sit through concert than quit.

Hi Padoos,

Can you please share the list of songs of Smt.Gayathri's programme at MA on 27th . I wanted to attend this but the authorities at MA informed that I have to stand in the " Q" at 5.30 in the morning for the tickets . I could not attend. Instead I attended a concert by the same artist @ Thyaga Bramha Gana Sabha on Saturday and was absolutely scintillating.

HI VMR

It was a good concert & I enjoyed it..
GV ‘s list
1. Evarini ( I wish she had started with a varnam before this item), Devamrutavarshini
2. Sivananda in Kamavardini (Composer GNB). Heard for the 1st time
3. Kaapaduve in Ananda Bairavi (Tanjore Sivanandam). Heard for the 1st time
4. Jambupathe in Yamunakalyani (M.Dikshitar) She sang this piece beautifully.
5. Madyamavati ( Main), Palintsu kamakshi. Very well handled.
6. Ragam tanam Pallavi in Sankarabaranam .

I liked the selection of Ragas

I came out before Pallavi to handover the ticket to my son.
Anuradha Sridhar played well. The sad part of the show was Mridangam & Ghatam. She deserved better percussion support.

She had a small crowd in the beginning but enjoyed the rub off effect of TMK prog towards the end. (Tukkada news) TMK had packed auditorium. Gopal Krishna Gandhi (former WB Governor ) entered towards the end of GV prog. Industrialists Sivasailam (in wheel Chair) with his daughter Mallika Srinivasan attended TMK prog. I couldn’t stay back for TMK prog.

I'm sure Padoos will agree with my post at http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php? ... ience.html

Just one visit, this year, has been my worst concert experience of the season --- through absolutely no fault of those on stage.

Hi Padoos,

Thanks for sharing Song list of GV's MA programme. Song selections are always new & innovative with Smt.GV. She always keeps the occasion and the other factors in mind when selecting the krithis. She does not sing just for name sake but sings with total involvement and bhavam.

Since this year is GNB's birth centinary she would have selected the GNB krithi.

As you rightly said the Y.Kalyani krithi is very beautifully rendered by her. In one of her earlier concerts this year when she sang this krithi, an elderly rasika had this say " the rendition was as smooth & soft as butter" .

I had the opportunity to attend her concert @ Thyaga Brahma Gana sabha last week . She had rendered a masterpiece Todi in which she sang Emani Migula of Syama Sastri with elaborate nereval and swaras. Top of the world music I should say....!!

All the best to her to continue such heavenly music for many years to come.

I dont think it is necessary to publish the entire kriti list - may be except the raga of RTP, Main kriti and 'sub main'.

Selecting the concert (by the rasiks-s) should not be like asking for the menu before entering a hotel.

Of course MA shall collect details from artists to avoid duplication .

See, this doen not happen even in the greatest Music festival (Samaroh) in the North. Artists just check the previous concert menu from others, that's all.

Aren't we demanding too much?
