I have watched this girl on tv many times and always admired her intelligent questions. She has excellent stage presence making the show very sensible. So, I went to her concert also, with great expectation. This girl is definitely going to make great waves in the music field, I felt after the concert.
Her first song was in the raga nattai, Vinayakane, in khanda triputa tala. The song had atita eduppu, and nadai change from tisra in pallavi, anupallavi to chaturasra in charanam. She put swaras in half beat before samam, in charanam. Someone asked about the composition and she explained it was tuned by her guru Sashikiran.
Next song was Mudduswamy Dikshithar’s Sadachaleshwaram, in bhoopalam. She put swaras in the line kamalavijaya. The swaras were cascading like a river, she sang nice patterns and rounded off in the end with an intelligent korvai. Next she sang a crisp, beautiful alapana in chakravakam, the starting sangathi giving indication about the song she was going to render"¦sugunamule. She did niraval and swaras in charanam. Then she sang in slow pace, Anandabhairavi masterpiece Marivere. It really brought Anandam. The swara and sahitya for swaras were sung very well. Then filler was Ennai Nee Maravaade in Amrithavarshini in super-fast speed, as contrast to Marivere.
Main piece was another masterpiece Kaligiyunte in Keeravani raga. Violinist Shyam played well in the alapana and mridangist Ethirajan played nice thani avarthanam. After thani, first song was Modijesevelara, the beautiful Khamas javali. She gave some small but very nice variations in first line of charanam"¦very enjoyable. She sang both tukkadas with so much feeling.
Concluding item was Maithreem Bhajatha. She has a very mellifluous voice, suiting both weighty songs and post thani items.
I congratulated her after the concert. It seems she finished her engg. last yr and now doing her MBA. I left the concert thinking may the tribe of such multi-talented young people increase!
