This discussion was going on for the past 20 years. Should we have music TV channel exclusively for classical music. But I am afraid that TV channel exclusively for classical music would be very costly affair, But we can think of an FM station in Chennai and other places exclusively for classical music. Of course I know that Sruthi channel in World Space has shut down recently. Perhaps it was a commercial venture. But the classical music artistes can join together and with the help of both the government of tamilnadu and the Government of India can start FM radio stations. There is nothing wrong for this station is based on commercials (advertisements) as subsidiary income. In the beginning the station can operate on restricted times in the evenings and and extend their time during the day time. I think extending to 24 hours will be a waste. In the beginning the items may be of carnatic classical and traditional music of Tamilnadu (Thevarams and Pasurams)not only by Othuvars but also by classical artistes. Slowly it can be extended to folk music and then to North Indian classical music and even to Western Classical music. It should not exclusively for audio tapes and audio CDs and DVDs. There should also be real time concerts. Such a channel can also be of great help to the upcoming competent younger musicians. It is not necessary to extend to film music because there already too many channels for film music. Somebody has to take initiative. This can be done only by a group of young and established carnatic music artistes. Even film music directors like Mr. Ilayaraja will be willing to associate himself with this venture. Such FM channels exclusively for classical music are available in USA and I am sure in Europe also.

I heard about this on line radio station. It is very good. But online stations you have to hear through the computer. Normally the computer speakers are not of great fidelity. Besides many may not have unlimited download facility. On the other hand music FM stations selected locations(cities) will be more convenient to hear.
