It was a good concert. The vainika, a disciple of Smt. Kalpakam Swaminathan, presented the songs well. The style and handling of the instrument were indicative of her school of training. The kritis were presented well with good manodarmam. The mridangist was wonderful and played with great anticipation.

The concert was reasonably engaging. SRP's playing technique indeed makes her tutelage with Smt Kalpakam Swaminathan obvious. Being school-finicky I left after this concert and did not attend the other concert that day, which I would have normally attended. :(

I have a question about rAga delineations by vaiNikAs - don't they automatically play a few rounds of a tAnam at the end?

not always. traditional vainikas play tanam (an elaborate one, with ragamalika sometimes) only for the main piece.

some mordern vainikas have started the tanam for many pieces trend these days..
