This concert being held in lakshmi narasimhar temple had a nice ambience expectedly all the numbers were thematic with the presiding diety. But it was a difficult place to find as I have not been to this temple in this side of nanganallur, lost the first two songs, especially the samaja vara gamana is one of my favourites as it has the punch irrespective of any singer who sings it.

The start to me was a fairly expansive bilahari, the heavyness of bilahari and the late arrival of me did not create in me a great feeling , the krithi was sung quite well and the neraval had its good dose of manodharma , but the singer deciding to wrap it too quickly was a bit of disappointment .Swaras of bilahari were also not that usual suryaprakAsh expansiveness

From bahudAri things looked up , the swara downpour had another round of new patterns in bahuDAri and I enjoyed it a lot. The alApana of tOdi was well done with lot of azhuttam but he could have gone little more in alApana in tOdi, the krithi and neraval was well done, swaras had a lot of short burst swara patterns and I liked it a lot. Arabi was very good .

The pick of the day was indeed the viruththam , just 2 rAgas he must have atleast sung close to 8 mins with very minimal violin, dwijAvanthi had the right dose of melancholy mood and the kalyAna vasantham just appeared rightfully to move from melancholy to ecstasy , expectedly the flag ship krithi of arasi came out very well a notch higher than the last parthasarathy swami sabha concert that I and arasi heard.

Nice slOkham in yamunA kalyAni ending up with krishna mukundA murArE gelled more better to the audience who lapped it up. His thillAna was excellent with he repeating few critical lines like venkatagiri , narayana giri did gel well with the crowd.

The accompanist Ravi in vioin had his share of pluses and minuses , plus is his fairly high sowkhyam quotient in alApana and minues is his bit slower and more scalar responses during return. The man of the match was indeed Tanjore murugabhoopathy , nice controlled aggression,he really showed lot of proactiveness and stealed lot of strokes . The ghatam artist was playing without much break and to an extent at times I felt there was hyper percussion, but certainly the booming voice of suryaprakAsh did compensate well

Overall to me this was not the usual higher standard of suryaprakAsh, nevertheless still nice . Overall a very good concert for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Possibly yes. Gopalaka Pahiman is usually sung as the 1st or second song.

In your excitement, you seem to have pressed the shift key a little too early: it's nanganallUr and not nanganaLLur.

Yes, and I am happy we are all catching up with Arun's transliteration paddati :)

As per whatever Arun's coined, isn't it "paddhati"? |(

Depends on in which language you are saying it! Sanskrit words which have come into tamizh are usually pronounced as they are written down in tamizh (no show of the differences between ka kha. ta tha and so on). I was thinking in tamizh, I guess. You are right too, of course!

NanganallUr, where I found my bride many years ago, is very much nanganaLLUr to me :)

nangai = damsel
naLLudal = 1. to approach, join, associate with; 2. to contract friendship, befriend; 3. to like, accept

Coming to Rajesh, I have learnt to enjoy his delectable concert reviews, no longer letting the slokhams and ugaboogas and breadth controls and other minor foibles come in the way! :)

As for Rajesh, his enthusiasm and love for CM can take you on a giddy trip too. His enthusiasm is catching and the subject of his review in this case is an energizer too ;)
