Sreeni Rajarao, Rasika911, sangithapithu1(love yor handle)
so sorry, I got caught up and forgot about this. Here is the songs list and my thoughts from my notes:
Pancha veena
Madurai Sri T.N.Seshagopalan - veena
Smt. Sowmya - veena
Sri. Srikanth Chary - veena
Trichy. Sri. Sivakumar - veena
Smt. Nirmala Rajasekhar - veena
Guruvayoor Sri. Dorai – Mridangam
Sri. E.M.Subramaniam - ghatam
Uzhavoor Sri. P.K.Babu – mridangam
Bhairavi – varnam
pUrvi kalyani – mInAkshi mEmUdam, R, N@ madhura puri nilaye maṇi valaye, S
Anandabhairavi – mari vErE gati EvarammA, syama sastri
Varali – kana kana rucirA, T
Karaharapriya - R, thanam, in nattai, srI, gowlai, behag and a few more ragams I think as I darted in and out followed by
pakkala nila padi, T, S
Thani
Thirupugazh
As Sri. T.N.Seshagopalan took his place as the master (conductor?) audience braced themselves for a show of brilliance…even though some of the linking phrases felt less cohesive, the better part of the concert was organically integrated.
Every emotional color of poorvi kalyani which cushions the wafting melody, ‘mInAkshi memudam’ was peeled off in strips. There were plenty of striking moments within the detailed MD’s ethereal work, with fluttering phrases as if the veenas had somehow learned to sing. The expressive neraval @ madura puri nilaye started with an evocative solo by Sri. T.N.Seshagopalan, traversing intimate and dramatic arches of the text as the pancha veenas blended during the final phrases with delectable tenderness, bouncing one rhythmic flow off another with each one of the artistes taking the part of an undulant accompanimental figure in the sojourn ...it was serene...
karaharapriya …with gradual progression, each touching on a different aspect of the raga’s range…The thanam unrolled with a wide coloristic palette with each artiste whipping a melody and maintaining the momentum with the underlying tension in the strings adding dramatic scope followed by Thyagaraja’s ‘pakkala nila padi’, where by unfurling the splendor of the composition with a leisurely gait, without ostentation and contouring the lyrics with emotive and rhythmic grace, the artistes projected much of the composer’s lyrical eloquence followed by thani, where the vivid and acutely attuned communication between Sri. Dorai, Sri. E.M.Subramaniam, Sri. P.K.Babu was remarkable.
It was a joyfully consuming concert…

Kedharam,
Thanks for the review.
I thought Sri. D Balakrishna was part of the group who played veena (even the schedule on Aradhana.org shows his name. I thought I also saw a picture on the forum). I did not know Sri. Srikanth Chary was part of the group that performed.
And now the big question - any chance we can hear some recording of this performance?

I just loved the above sentence, interesting choice of words , certainly I had to read it twice to relieve myself your ' underlying tension of choice of words' . Keep it going with your style
