I would like to request the opinions of members in us involving ourselves (as a group) in non-profit activities that are strictly related to the spread of Carnatic Music.
When I say activities related to the spread of Carnatic Music, it does not mean supporting poor musicians or paying for the welfare of the families of deceased musicians or the like which are not related to the propagation of Carnatic Music directly. However it may include promoting the sale of rare releases, having a classifieds section on CM, subsidizing releases of Carnatic Music albums etc which might otherwise not hit the market for want of customers etc.
The funds for these activities may come from the following:
1. Donations from our members and outsiders (not very certain if this is dependable)
2. Starting an online revenue based marketplace for sale of CDs, music instruments etc on this website and using that revenue etc.
We could either do this as a registered charitable society if some of us can devote enough time to manage it, or even do it on an individual basis.
Please share your views.

Sounds like a good idea, but I for one would like all evidence of 'subjectivity' to be eliminated regarding what this charity will or will not support. To use the examples you cited, I can already see subjectivity creeping into defintions of 'rare' in the first one - 'sale of rare releases'.

Who'll bell the cat?
How can it be tied to this Forum?
The activities can be defined...
A sub committee can be formed to administer the funds and monitor the activities.
Requires serious brain storming...
Spell out your ideas first....
