The Eastman School of Music, located in Rochester, New York, conducts a series of Summer
Institutes every year that are normally offered by faculty of the school. Last year, I had the wonderful opportunity to conduct a week-long institute on South Indian Percussion as a Ph.D. student in musicology/ethnomusicology at Eastman. Given the overwhelming response to my institute, which attracted participants from across the country, I have been requested to present two institutes this summer-- beginner and intermediate levels-- from July 12-16, 2010.
The institute is designed for anyone interested in the percussive traditions of India, including students, school teachers, and community members. Providing hands-on training on several South Indian drums, the institute grants participants one college credit or 15 professional development hours from the world renowned Eastman School of Music. This aspect is especially useful for college-bound students and educators.
More details about my Eastman institutes can be found at: http://www.esm.rochester.edu/summer/ins ... orld_Music.
If you have any questions, please email me at [email protected]. Please also note that there
will be a "cap" on the acceptance of applicants, so contact me as soon as possible to register for the institute and summer housing.
Thank you.
