I apologize for the cryptic note. The point I was looking to make is that the idea of an all india music academy seems to have started formally in 1916 itself.. Does anyone have any other timeline? This I thought would be a useful note in understanding the history of our music organizations.

Ninja,
Nice to hear from you!
Yes, I wondered too if you were pointing out the date--such an early one at that. I then thought that perhaps there was more of the letter and your comment too which somehow got truncated.
Waiting for comments from the historians.

Just to give a light historic detail. C S Anataram Aiyer was a high-ranking civil servent in the Madras Presidency; In 1915-1916, he took off for a tour of north India, when he visited Baroda and was invited to this gathering.

Another gathering he was invited to was one of industrialists. He states that "among those industrailists was one M.K. Gandhi, who cannot be called as one of them; but he has some very interesting ideas, and I had a short discussion with this young man about his views"!!!!

As were well-educated men of that time, C S Anantaram Iyer was very well connected to some of the famous men of the time - C P Ramaswamy Iyer, Rajagopalachari, Pattabhi Sitaramayya etc., who he frequently quotes in his letters. He died suddenly circa 1921, leaving beind two children Subramanian alias Rajamani and Rangammal, and his wife Parvathy. His children were brought up by his brother, C S Venkatasubramanian (Chellappa) Aiyer. These letters were all adressed to this brother.

Cheers, Ninja
