SUBHA GANESAN - SVBC NADHANEERAJANAM- July 29th

Post by sangithapithu1 »

Subha Qualified her concert with a variety of impressive ragas and krithis of great composers. The Kalpana swaras for Sugunamule was precise.
Her Raga delineation of Hindolam was noteworthy for its clear contours and the artists perception. The main raga Kharaharapriya occupied centre stage with its extraordinary charm and the artist ,to a great extent, did justice to her exhaustive elaboration. Srinivasa Thavacharanam was a wise choice with neraval and swaras revealing the singers hard and sincere practise gained through an ideal patanthara.
The accompaniments (didnt note their names) were helpful to the vocalist in adding colour to her rendering.

song list
Sugunamule- Chakravaham- Roopakam- Thyagaraja
Manasuloni- Hindolam- Adi- Thyagaraja
Srivenkatagirisa- Surutti- Adi- Muthuswami Dikshidar
Srinivasathava Charanam- Karaharapriya- Roopakam- Papanasam Sivan.

MOD-Can shift this to the running thread on Nada neerajanam.

I heard this concert. Just Ok. Some good artists are unable to translate vidhwat to performance.

Cannot understand in what context you have written like this Mr.kssr, may be just your feeling.

Overall the concert was very good , enjoyable and satisfactory . Fantastic karaharapriya with good manodharmam with classicism. She was introduced as Dr. MLV’s disciple, Could see MLV's style and touches especially in Hindolam. I think she also learns from Padmabhushan Madurai Sri. T N Seshagopalan (I don’t know whether I am correct).
she has been well groomed by both gurus.
The process of rigorous training under such stalwarts could be perceived in her performance.
The concert was very good and lively.

I too heard the programme. I would second kssr's opinion. It is true that there is ofcourse vidwat in this performer, but when it translates into a performance, It does not appeal much. After all a concert needs both in equal measure if not more. IMO, when a criticism is made, it should be analysed in the right perspective. I do agree that people's tastes differ.

It is not from whom one has learnt matter much, it is what you give to the audience that matters. If Subha had done rigourous training, she would be a different commodity altogether today.( No hard feeling meant against anyone, I am forced to say. It is an earnest feeling of a true unbiased rasika.)
