The concert began with the appropriate varnam on parthasarathy in vasantha. Giriraja sutha in bangaala followed. They seem to sing it often and I read that in a recent concert too they sang it. I wonder if it is a sentimental attachment they have towards this composition. The way they split the sahithyam appropriately and clearly made it very enjoyable. Ye paniko janminchithi in Asaveri was absolutely wonderful. This is another gem they have introduced in their repertoire. The very essence of Tyagaraja’s feelings are so very well brought out in this. Only the keerthana was sung in Chandra jyothi(Bagaya nayya). The Hemavathi was unforgettable. The raga alapana was brief but Sri Seshachary’s manodharma and the sancharas in anumandara shadja took the audience to a different plane of existence. The voice blended with the sruti with extraordinary beauty and bhavam. The madyama kala swara kalpana was in Guruguha manasa ranjani (SRGMPDNS-Guruguha manasa ranjani).
The raga alapana for swararaga was started by Sri sesha chary. He directed all his creative energy on emphasizing the beauty of Rishabam and gandharam especially. The elder Sri Raghavachary continued the alapana in a superb manner unhurriedly and built it up remarkably. The neraval was sung at Mooladhara and the swarakalpana followed.
I heard that Garuda gamana in hindolam by Annamacharya was set to tune by Sri Seshachary himself and it appears to be his favourite one. The concluding surutti was a fitting finale. The alapana started with a surprise - at Kaisiki nishada , which lent a remarkable beauty to an already beautiful song- Rama daivama. It was sung with great bhavam and moved the audience immensely. The violinist Sri K.V. Krishnahad his good moments in hemavathi and his swararaga was good. Sri Kotapalli Ramesh contributed well to the pace of this memorable concert.
