V.R.Dileepkumar in Bangalore on 8th August 2010
See the review of the above concert at
http://kpjayan.wordpress.com/
It seems Dileepkumar comes in the shishyaparampara of SSI. There are many good musicians from Kerala. We thank new organisations like Bheri for bringing them to the limelight. Also, I could see that it was organised by a group of young boys and girls in their 20s, who also seemed quite knowledgeable in music, by the way they were enjoying the concert. It is a very encouraging trend and such people need the support of all rasikas.
The concert itself was very good, as well. The alapana and krithi in Manoranjani (announced by VRD- I thought it was close to Gaana murthe but could not identify), was rendered beautifully. Also it is amazing how Saint Thyagaraja has composed in so many different and lesser known ragams and that too, bringing out its true individual character.
The pallavi in Behag, I felt, was unnecessary and served no special purpose. Just another good kriti would have been sufficient. However Charulatha Ramanujam on violin stole the thunder with her deep understanding of the various nuances of this tricky raga. But all said, it was a very enjoyable concert.

I hope you meant it in the context that since he sang a very short pallavi(because of time constraints) , he could have skipped it and instead sung a krithi.
On a side note , having downloaded few concerts of his in sangeethapriya, this musician usually skips the so called big six rAgas . He goes for rare krithis and rare rAgas and usually elaborates them. I would like to hear this particular manOranjani of his.

rajesh:
Not only short; but nothing outstanding, ragamalika or speed variations, etc., which normally distinguishes a pallavi. A good singer, but totally unknown in this part of the country.
I do not know if the organisers have recorded and if so it is available.
BTW, what is the feature that "characterises" a pallavi, as against , say, a neraval?

Very enjoyable concert.
Hari Kambhoji was very good.
Very unassuming, humble person.
He was not even bothered by the sound systems intially.

VRD has very clear understanding of ragas and both manoranjani and harikambodi were presented very well. Only the pallavi did not appeal because there was no vinyasa either of the pada or the laya. It was a plain presentation of pallavi portion of any song. It will be appreciated if some one can post his patdeep.
