14 August, 2010, Rasika Ranjani Sabha - Ghatkopar, Mumbai, in their new hall - quite a cosy and nice venue!

Inta calamu - Begada varnam, kalpana swarams, mostly one avartanam
Mayamalavagowla - ragam and Merusamana, neraval and swaram at Galamuna sobhillu
Sahana - ragam and Emanaticevo, Kalpana swarams at pallavi
Hamirkalyani - ragam and Parimala ranganatham (the one with the samasti charanam), kalpana swaram at pallavi
Suruti - ragam and Gitarthamu
Poornachandrika - Palukavemi, kalpana swaram at pallavi
Kharaharapriya - RTP (I had to leave after the raga alapana)

Very nice concert with solid raga alapanas all through. Song versions also uniformly good. Bold move to explore both the madhyamams in the higher octave in H.Kalyani. Suruti was good, but with some reluctance to linger on the nishadam. Poornachandrika at brisk pace, citta swaram seems to be different from what I remember (Balamurali's?). Kharaharapriya ragam was flowing. Gokul sang well in the Neyveli style, strong gamakams, good feel for the lyrics, sarvalaghu throughout and open posture.

Violin was good and Suruti ragam was inspired. But a strange blind spot to the exact phrasing of the pallavi for ending the swarams, in Sahana, H.Kalyani (where he picked it up correctly half way through) and Poornachandrika.

A nice performance .

The accompanying artists were Shri Shivakumar Anantaraman on the Violin and Shri Rohit on the Mridangam and they excellently complemented Gokul.
Shivakumar touched peak during Hamirkalyani.
Rohit's thani avarthanam was roaring !

The Auditorium with a seating capacity of around 130 plus looks cute . Result of hardwork put in by RRSabha .

The sound system was also good.
