It was the valedictory function of Hamsadhwani's 20th year celebrations. The chief guest of the evening was Ms. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, M.P., She presided over and gave away the awards instituted in the name of R Ramachandran (Ex Secretary of Hamsadhwani) To Mrs. Varalakshmi Anandakumar and Ms. Savitha Narasimhan for their excellent peformance in 2009 Hamsadhwani series. Hamsadhwani's Star singer Smt. Sudha Ragunathan was also felicitated by the sabha on this occassion.

Sudha started off the concert with a tamil varnam in hindolam , Mal marugan composed by Thanjavur Sankara Iyer ane being tuned in by her Guru Dr. MLV. The varali aalapana was very emotive and the krithi was very nicely rendered with lot of bhavam. Nattaikurunji alapana was beautiful .. The krithi 'Na Cei vidvakura' ..was new to me and i have not heard it in the concert circle ... The swarams were catchy & it was quite enjoyable.

Natabhairavi was taken up as the main ..Sudha chose to sing this as this is the 20th melakartha raga which is in coincidence to the 20th anniversary celbration..of this sabha. Krithi was very well rendered.

The violinst gave a wonderful support. The thani was also good.

The Krithi selection was excellent and overall it was a great 2hrs concert. It was a fitting finale to the 20th yr anniversary celebrations ..

Charulatha Mani sings it occasionally; will try to upload a recording. It may be prevalent among artistes with Kalakshetra connection. Bhagavatulu Seetarama Sarma teaches it to his students, so I wouldn't be surprised if TM Krishna has sung it sometime.

Kathikbala, thanks for the information .. I have been to many concerts of TMK and Sanjay and have not heard them sing this .. I didn't have an oppurtunity to listen to Charulatha Mani so far and hence don't know about her song repertoire ..
