Re: Carnatic Arangetrams in UK
Dear Rasikas,
I have started this subject witha an intention of bringing about a group of people welcoming them to write about the arangetrams happening in the London area. We welcome postive feedbacks and criticisms too. Hoping to improve the quality of mostly substandard quality arangetrams that are now takng place.

Dylon Sivams. mridangam and sxaphone arangetram
15 year pold Dylon Sivam gave his mridangam arangetram and Saxaphone arangetram on 04th Septemebr in a London theatre. The hall hardly had any people in the starting few songs of the programme and people started coming in very late though. The mridangam arangetram was scheduled for the first half followed by the saxaphone arangetram. Sri Kadri Gopalnath was the chief guest for the show. Both the arangetrams were too long for a one day's show spreading over 2 and a half hours each. The whole show lasted over nearly 6 hours. Sense of time had been judged out of proportion and was least thought of. The mood of the evening was completely spoilt with people waiting in anticipation for the next item. The thaniavarthanam was just too long spreading over 52 minutes. The mridangam playing style were in the footsteps of a great guru with a number of disciples to the school of playing. But, it was a such a pity that no consideration was shown to the requirement of the programme. It has become a rule that arangetram thaniavarthanams have to be atleast 50 minutes demonstrating all possible nadais and korraippus possible one can do the whole life. Teachers should concentrate on giving more importance to quality than quantity thus bringing more respect to every school of playing. The saxaphone arangetram was well played, with the unfortunate absence of the guru (in India). The acomapanist were all seasoned musicians each playing as less as possible only catering for the requirement of the programme and thus curbing all possible artistic involvement. It was also noted that the guest was paid closed to a five figure amount for this event, in every sense raising a thought over the ethics of the nature of the programme.

Names! Give us names! both of the gurus and the accompanists, please, and the actual location. Whether the review is positive or negative, we should have details, otherwise you might just as well say, "something happened" --- and leave it at that.
It sounds like a marathon, for everyone involved, and a really bad idea.
Anyway, please give us names and some more details of the program. Partly because, whilst many people outside of India feel connected to Chennai by this forum, some of us welcome a link to the London music scene!
