YUVA SANKIRTAN ORGANISED BY MUDHRA

Post by CRama »

Mudhra has proved within a short time that it is not one of the run of the mill sabhas in the city- conducting a few music concerts only in December. It is functioning with full commitment and having a long term vision of enriching our music and cultural heritage. It has taken lot of initiative in bringing more rasikas to the concerts through its music appreciation and educational provgrammes for the rasikas. One more feather in its cap is the “Yuva Sankeertan”, a Nama Sankeertana Mela by school children organized by Mudhra and Bhagavan Nama Prachara Mandali Trust on 5th September (Teacher’s Day) from 9.a.m to 9p.m at Infosys Hall, Ramakrishna Mission School, Bazulla Road, T.Nagar The day long programme had about 110 children from 10 schools performing for one hour each. The main objective of this event was to promote and motivate youngsters in the field of Nama Sankeertanam. After each school performed, the music teacher of the school was honoured by the respective students as a Guru Vandanam.
The schools which have participated in the event were – Sri Ramkumar Fomra Vivekananda Vidyalaya- Tambaram, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya – Pammal, Tambaram and Urapakkam, S.C.S Matriculation School- Chrompet, Sri Sivasamy kalalaya, P.S.B.B – K.K.Nagar,T.PRoad and Nungambakkam, Hindu Senior Secondary School.
Because of my personal preoccupations, I could attend only a portion of the programme. But it was very impressive. It was a revelation to me that today's youngsters are taking interest in learning and spreading Namasankeertanam. The children followed the traditional Bhajanapaddhathi. They sang with violin and mridangam accompaniments. I did not see harmonium. They sang with proper modulation, sruti sudham and mostly without referring to any book. They had chipla kattai, jalra also. The audience also joined the nama sankeertanam at the appropriate places. Famous Namasankeertanam Gurus in the city also attended the festival and provided advice and blessings to the children at the end of each slot.
Noted musician O.S.Arun and Swami Padmasthananda Maharaj (Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama) inaugurated the fest. In the evening’s function, Dr.Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty Dr.S.A.K.Durga and H.Balasubramaniam, Regional Manager, SBI participated and honoured Padmini Sriraman, Principal of Hindu Senior Secondary School with the title “Guru Sironmani.” Best Wishes to Mudhra for all your efforts..
