Needless to say that Kum.Aishwarya.S comes under the tutelage of Smt.Radha Vishwanathan (daughter/disciple of Smt.MS Subbulakshmi). The 3 hour concert proved to be a success for the organizers and Aishwarya's budding aspirations as well.
Aishwarya commenced her concert with a Prelude to Lord Dakshinamurthy which was followed by the Viriboni Varnam in 2 kalams. The 'tishram' to the varnam added to its glory. This aspect was well rehearsed and managed on the concert stage. The next few songs which followed were of the MS reportire and they were done justice to. The audience lit up when she started Sriman Narayana. To speak of the main song, Gajavadana in Ragam Thodi apparently, which MS amma and Radha mami had learnt from Semmangudi mama & couldn't perform on stage due to Mami suddenly falling seriously ill in 1982. Aishwarya, dedicated this song to her Grandmother and spoke a few words on the history before presenting it. The tukkudas were more or less were the ones made famous by MS amma like Jagadodharana, Srinivasa Thiruvenkata (nostalgic about the viruttam which was beautifully sung by Radha mami in concerts), Katrinile Varum Geetham, Hari Tum Haro. To mention the Thillana in Shankarabharanm which also was learnt by MS amma & Radha mami from Semmangudi but not presented on stage together. The Mangalam was unusual, as she rendered Seetha Kalyana in Kurunji.
Some of the highlights in the concert were the raga alapana in Kamavardhini & Thodi. Swaras in Kamavardhini , especially in slower speed brought out the beauty of the raga so well . Sarasa Sama Dhana was rendered superbly in great speed .The chittaiswaram in the song Gajavadana was sung with intense care, in particular the Gandhara , soaked in the Semmangudi style. The veteran accompanists (Sri CNC and Sri Cheluvaraju in particular) provided Aishwarya great support for the entire duration of 3 hours with lots of "bhales" and "bhesh" in between. There were requests which kept creeping in continously from the fully packed hall. (inspite of an auto strike) The organizer who gave a very short speech towards the end of the tani, blessed Aishwarya and complimented her for having performed a great concert at the age of 14 years and that she should make a niche for herself in the field of Carnatic Music like her great Grandmother.
The overall effect of the concert was emotive for Grandmother Smt Radha who was seated in the front row in her wheel chair as well as the proud parents of Aishwarya. The audience were overwelmed too, on listening to this young girl with an outpouring enthusiasm to shruti-shuddham and kaala-pramaanam. The concert was certainly worth to speak a mouthful ! A picture of the concert in full flow.
