An excellent concert by rather not so popular musician...Packed with many slokam, uncommon keerthana, sung in very traditional way. He has a powerful voice, and was well supported by accompanists. Hemavathi and mohana alapana deserve special mention and suddha dhanyasi neraval was sung on entire line!! And there were those little outlines for most of the alapana, bringing out bhava and laga lakshana clearly. Dr Vageesh choose most of the songs since the series was on gokulashtami, but yet covered many vageyakara. RTP was really a surprise! What a pity - a meager crowd.... Sound system didn't help either, lot of echo.... a very satisfying concert......

Hope we get to hear such musicians more often...

Pattamma,
Thanks for the review. I have heard of Dr. Vageesh but haven't heard him sing. Coming from you, I would make it a point to listen to him if he gives a concert while I'm there. It's a pity that when lesser known performers sing in a series, they are ignored. Even otherwise, unless the artiste is well-known, not many bother to go, even if takes place just a few minutes away from them.

Enu mADidarEnu, Enu kELidarEnu??
tUNilum iruppAn, turumbilum iruppAn engaL nArAyaNan??

Guess Dr.Vageesh is based out of Delhi if am not wrong. Maybe one of the reasons why he is not very popular among Chennai and Bangalore music circles. He is also an AsthAna vidhwAn of srimad Andavan Ashramam..

The difference between "viDil" and "enil" is not significant. In the anupallavi line Sivan uses "tAyirangAviDil".

Yes, initially worked for SK & F and later plunged into full carnatic music as he hails from a family of musicians from Mysore.

Do you mean Smith, Kline & French ( S K & F), which is now GSK?
Is he a scientist turned musician?

Yah,true. He was a vocalist. He completed his Ph.D in music. After switching his job to AIR, it appears all his dreams got fulfilled.
