Hey !!
Your prabhath timings ( 5.30 am ) by Chennai standards is Ardha Rathri at blore
Having said that I must admit ,that those who have not experienced this labour of love by DVMK and Company in the form of renderings by artists between 6-7 am, without accompaniment are missing out on something very very wonderful.
It has been going on for so many years without publicity and I shall remind you folks again this december

Re: Nadaloka- A new musical effort
Saketharaman's devine music for Nadaloka was an amazing experience. In a small hall which would accommodate about 50 odd people, Saketh started with a sloka followed by Shambo Mahadeva in Bowli, then Mokshamugalada in Saramathi, in such a calm and melodious manner that most people in the audience were really moved. This was followed by Hamir Kalyani - Venkatashaila with a neat, slow alapana without any jerks or gymmicks. No birgas are speeding phrases were there. Hiranmayeem Lakshmeem in Lalitha was also started with a brief and fine sketch of the raga and just 3-4 avartanams of swara in 1st speed alone. He presented a ragamalika, some slokams selected from Ramayanam followed by Rama Rama Rama Seetha in Thilang and closed with mangala kosalendraya slokam. There was no pakkavadyam, but onlyn Radal Tambura. His sruti was so well aligned and each landing of a sangatho or raga was in tune with the tambura drone and the effect was mesmerising and divine. I felt Sakethraman's voice was best suited for that program, hall and the purpose of the program. The 30 + people who attended were all in full praise for the program. There was a treat of coffee and biscuits in the end.

Congratulations to Sri Vasudevan ( & kssr and Harini for informing and reporting this event) and Saketharaman for providing such a wonderful experience .
Prabhata Sangeetham is indeed a very good initiative.

Re: Nadaloka- A new musical effort
I have never attended a concert at that hour. This was my first experience. I was listening to the serene pure essence of Carnatic music with my eyes closed. When the Lalitha raga started, I was moved to tears ( I covered up not to be observed
) . We hope they organise this programme regularly.
Besides the organisers, full credit should go to young Saketharaman. For just a token honorarium, he came and willingly participated in the new venture and gave all of us a great experience. We have had loud discussions in this forum on how greedy today's artists are and so on. I have always argued that CM's greatest strength is the simplicity- low profile attitude and cooperation of artists, organisers and rasikas. Saketh is one more example of such artists. We wish him a great future.

You should not have covered up kssr ! A concert is one place where we can cry if required (shamelessly if I may add )kssr wrote: When the Lalitha raga started, I was moved to tears ( I covered up not to be observed) .

I have edited my above post to congratulate the young Saketharaman too, which I had missed out.

Coolji- Bengaluru after becoming an IT city, life starts quite early. Next time u visit Bengaluru, please come to Banashankari terminus around 0630 AM, u can see Volvo buses lined up to go to diffrent places- IT park( Whitefileld) & Electronics City( Hosur Road). The buses start quite early 0630. This is in addition to other White board/ Redboard buses in beeline. U can see young IT professionals just waiting to hop into these buses around this time.mankuthimma wrote:Hey !!

For a couple of years, Mumbai has been having the Pratah Swar series by Pancham Nishad (I think) in the open air outside the Ravindra Natya mandir, at 6.30 a.m. on one Sunday a month in the non-monsoon months. I have attended a couple of them. Very nice setting.

A good time to listen to music without any frills at that hour. Better still, if it's during the weekend, there is less traffic. A couple of years ago, not far from where I stay in Bengaluru, there was an early morning concert by a well-known HM artiste. We had guests at home. Otherwise, I would have been there. If I remember right, I think it was at 6-45, to suit an early morning rAgA, I suppose.

Sometime back they had started 'udyAnavanadalli sangeetha' where early in the mornin g some artists would be invited to sing in some popular parks. One such venue was Lalbagh. I wonder what happened to that program now.

V, Bengalurians have to 'Complain' to Karnataka's Cultural Minister if this initiative has been stopped.
