My first concert in a while...another case of unrewarded merit and talent (attendance was less than 20). Visalakshi's bass voice is a refreshing change from the staple of sky high pitches. Highlights:
RTP Bhairavi - Tisra Triputa, Khanda Nadai (swaras in Ananda Bhairavi, Sindhu Bhairavi, Bilahari among others)
Purahara Nandana - Hamir Kalyani - Dikshitar R
Varashikivahana - Supradeepam - Thyagaraja
Both the alaapanas were impactful, aided by a voice that is both weighty and agile. Chittaswaras for Purahara Nandana were rendered in 3 speeds including Tisram. RTP was well handled and Trikalam was done effortlessly.
Supradeepam was a teaser until its identity was revealed - it is, as I had suspected, a janya of Suryakantam.
It was a difficult choice since I had to miss Vijay Siva's concert but there was no reason for regret in the end.
