Ashwin Anand (vINA) - Mysore Shivashankaraswamy - Ramesh

Rajarajeshwari Nagar Cultural Committee, Bengaluru

sarasIruhAsanapriye - nATTai - Adi - ? (... S)
sItApatE - khamAs - Adi - T (sketch)
kOrina varamosagumaiya - rAmapriya - rUpakacApu - PS (RNS)
banTu rIti - haMsanAda - Adi - T (sketch, NS @ rAmanAmamane)
cakkani rAjamArgamulu - kharaharapriya - Adi - T (RTNST -- rAgamAlika :( )
rAdhAsamEta krShNa - mAND / rAgamAlika? - Adi - ?

I reached around 7 10, when swaras in nATTai were being played. The khamAs sketch was begun very well, and it would have been lovely if a more elaborate treatment was given for the deserving rAga and kriti.

rAmapriya was done nicely. The AlApanais were somehow not properly audible. Even though the sound settings could've (already) been more in the vINai's favour, the volume was left even more wanting in AlApanai than during kriti, neraval or swaram. In addition to bending, they also seem to use sliding in this school, and probably the mITTu (pluck) dies out fast when doing that.

I enjoyed the rAmapriya neraval and swarams a lot. Rhythmic patterns used were interesting.

The swarams at haMsanAda were a little bit of a drag. Just before the last (longest) round of swaras, I felt he was intending to finish the piece there, but didn't recollect the next line in time, so continued playing swaras. Perhaps if he were relaxed, he would have simply taken an Avartanam from the percussionists and finished it off.

kharaharapriya AlApanai was pure classic stuff! Lovely, in spite of the volume problem. Though I did miss the ni, ni, niii dpmaa phrase. The tAnam could have been a little longer and more leisurely. I dislike rAgamAlikas in between kritis, but he played a ranjani (apart from the kApi, bEhAg and I think another raga I don't remember), which was good.

The tani was good. They played koraippu in tishram itself ... but they first played koraippu to eDuppu, and later the mridangist changed it to the samam.

It was getting late for me, and I had to leave before the tukkaDa section, which must have had one more song.

The first piece was natakuranji varnam. The other ragam in the malika was varali I think.
Yep - I agree - the acoustics was poor - and I had trouble focusing at times - probably due to where I was sitting.
The concert as such, I liked very much. There are not many veena concerts these days in Bangalore. If there are any please send me an email ([email protected]) The artiste is very talented (my first time). I would like to hear him at a more traditional venue, of course with better acoustics.
